Part (1/2)

Cutting the pallet fork bridge* of the Mondphase 1.

This is where the shape begins. Before any filing or finishing can happen, the part has to be cut from the blank by hand with a saw.

The line you follow here determines everything that comes after it. There is no correcting a cut that has gone too far, which is why this step gets the same attention as any other part of the process.

This is one of the more demanding parts to finish. The component is skeletonized, which means the surfaces that need to be worked are surrounded by walls that are extremely thin.

One wrong movement and the part bends. At that point it is unusable. There is no way to rush this step. The time it takes to finish a single piece like this is determined entirely by what the part allows, not by what would be convenient.

A closer look at one of the smaller components inside the Mondphase 2.

What you see here is the arbor that one of the wheels sits on. The most critical detail is the rivet groove, the small recess that the wheel is pressed over during assembly to lock it in place on the arbor.

At this scale, that groove has to be exact. Too tight and the wheel will not seat properly. Too loose and the connection fails.

Preparing the balance c**k for one of our watches.

The balance c**k holds the balance wheel in place and plays a direct role in how the movement runs.

Before it can be connected to the balance wheel, it goes through a preparation process to make sure every surface and dimension is exactly where it needs to be. Part 2 will show the full assembly.

The FPA1 caliber.

This movement represents more than a new model. With the FPA1 architecture we have built a foundation that opens up possibilities that were not available to us before. The decisions we made at the design stage, how the components are laid out, how the architecture is structured, give us a level of control over what we can develop next that we have not had until now.

What you see here is the starting point for work that goes well beyond this single piece.
