The first 911 Turbo was a birthday present.

In 1974, Ferry Porsche gave his sister Louise Piëch the very first Turbo for her 70th birthday: silver paint, brick-red leather and tartan down the centre of the seats. The same red and blue McLaughlin tartan our straps are cut from.

It all started with a pair of trousers.

One morning in the early 1970s, Porsche’s chief designer Anatole Lapine walked into the design studio wearing tartan. Not long after, tartan was on the options list of the very first 911 Turbo.

We took apart an original 911 Turbo seat from the 1970s, unpicked the fabric seam by seam and cut it on the bias, the way a tailor would. Enough for 112 straps. Then never again.
