If you ever wondered what we mean when we say that mammoth fossils are a bycatch of fishing…
During the last ice age the Northsea was a huge fertile land mass with an abundance of wildlife like woolly rhinos, cave hyenas, cave lions and the iconic woolly mammoth 🦣🦣🦣 Especially the former high area of Doggerland is known for its many fossils and even referred to as a cold Serengeti.
Because of this abundance of fossils it often happens that the Dutch fishermen get a wonderful bycatch in their nets. This material is often porous and needs to be preserved carefully.
All the mammoth tusks we get from the Northsea need to go through a long preparation and stabilization process. However, after this process the Northsea mammoth ivory has the most beautiful structures and colors out there.

Shhh… We’re working on an all new mammoth tooth material that makes every bit of these precious ice age fossils count! 🦣

Code name: Mammascus (TM)

It is made of upcycled pulverized mammoth tooth deposits from the cutting process. Combined with shining ores of brass, bronze and zinc in Damascus steel-like patterns this material really catches the eye! Here’s a little sneak peek of how it is turning out.

The best version of our stabilized burlwood so far: “Hot walnut”.
We have selected the richest spalted poplar burl blocks with flames, burl-eyes and dark spalted streaks. Then we stabilize them with a special walnut brown pigment that manifests itself differently in each block. So we never really know what we get until they are finished. This way we can absolutely promise that each piece is unique!
