Launched in 2009, the jewelry label OggDESIGN is founded on Béatrice Oggier's passion for gemstones.

After a trip to India captured her spirit and imagination, Béatrice left a successful career in finance to becom

e a jewelry designer of unique talent. To top a Bachelor of Laws and an MBA from Switzerland, Béatrice earned gemology and jewelry design degrees in Barcelona and Milan.

Currently based in Barcelona, each piece by OggDESIGN is delicately handmade under the curation of Béatrice at every stage: from the search and selection of gemstones, to the craftsmanship and finishing in the atelier.

Characterised by colourful pieces, OggDESIGN encapsulates the wonderment held in the natural, precious beauty of gemstones and jewels.

🐚El brillo de una perla no nace de la perla.

Nace del nácar que la rodea.

Capa a capa, durante años, el molusco construye una estructura de aragonita tan fina que la luz se refracta al atravesarla. En gemología, este fenómeno tiene un nombre: orient. Y es una de las primeras cosas que observo cuando selecciono una perla para una clienta.

🐚A pearl’s glow does not come from the pearl itself.

It comes from the nacre surrounding it.

Layer by layer, over many years, the mollusk builds a structure of aragonite so fine that light bends as it passes through. In gemology, this phenomenon has a name: orient. It is one of the first things I look for when selecting a pearl for a client.

🐣¿Conoces la tradición del regalo de nacimiento?

En muchos países anglosajones se regala una joya a la madre tras el nacimiento de su bebé, como símbolo de amor, gratitud y reconocimiento por todo lo vivido durante el embarazo.

He diseñado varias de estas joyas de nacimiento para clientes que querían crear un recuerdo único para un momento irrepetible.

Personalmente, creo que es una tradición preciosa.

In many English-speaking countries, a piece of jewelry is gifted to a mother after the birth of her baby as a symbol of love, gratitude, and appreciation.

I’ve designed several birth jewels for clients wanting to celebrate this life-changing moment with a meaningful piece.

I personally think it’s a beautiful tradition.

💎Cuando una clienta me pregunta qué gema le recomendaría, nunca empiezo por el presupuesto.

Empiezo por ella.

Su personalidad. La luz en la que vive. El uso que dará a la joya. La historia que quiere contar y la singularidad que busca.

Como gemóloga y diseñadora de joyas a medida, creo que la gema perfecta no es necesariamente la más cara ni la más conocida.

Es la que conecta contigo.

Por eso cada proyecto comienza con una conversación, no con un catálogo.

¿En cuál de estos 5 criterios te fijarías primero al elegir una gema?

💎 When a client asks me which gemstone I would recommend, I never start with the budget.

I start with her.

Her personality. The light she lives in. How the jewel will be worn. The story she wants to tell and the uniqueness she is looking for.

As a gemologist and bespoke jewellery designer, I believe the perfect gemstone is not necessarily the most expensive or the rarest.

It is the one that feels like you.

Every custom piece begins with a conversation, not with a catalogue.

🐚¿Por qué unas perlas valen mucho más que otras?

Aunque a simple vista puedan parecer similares, el valor de una perla depende principalmente de cuatro factores:

✨ Lustre: es el brillo de la perla. Cuanto más intenso, profundo y nítido sea el reflejo, mayor será su calidad.

✨ Tamaño: las perlas grandes son más escasas y, por tanto, más valiosas.

✨ Forma: las perlas perfectamente redondas son las más raras y cotizadas.

✨ Color: algunos colores son más difíciles de encontrar y especialmente apreciados según el tipo de perla.

La próxima vez que admires una joya con perlas, recuerda que detrás de su belleza hay mucho más que una simple esfera nacarada.

🐚Why are some pearls worth much more than others?

Although they may look similar at first glance, a pearl’s value is mainly determined by four factors:

✨ Luster: the quality of its shine. The sharper and deeper the reflection, the more valuable the pearl.

✨ Size: larger pearls are rarer and therefore more valuable.

✨ Shape: perfectly round pearls are the rarest and most sought after.

✨ Color: certain colors are more difficult to find and highly prized depending on the pearl variety.

The next time you admire a pearl jewel, remember that there is much more behind its beauty than a simple nacreous sphere.
