S U R F A C E

I have always been drawn to surfaces.

The way a material changes, the marks it keeps, the colours that appear almost unexpectedly.

For me, this is often where an object begins.

E S S E N T I A L

I wanted Essential to be a collection of simple objects for everyday life.

Pieces that are easy to live with, but still have a strong material presence.

I like the idea that an everyday object can become something you notice, touch and enjoy using.

One of the things I love most about working with ash is that I never know exactly how the surface will respond.
For Essential, I use pure ash from different plants fig, vine, olive and pine.
Each one brings something slightly different to the glaze: a different tone, texture and character.
The plant becomes part of the object in another form.

With the change of season, I find myself drawn again to the quiet beauty of materials shaped by time.

Elements that transform, mark and age.

There are people you connect with from the very first moment, even before you’ve shared a conversation. That’s how it was with Holly Holly Fielder

The way she sees the world, her eye for light, texture, and the quiet beauty of everyday moments, resonates deeply with the way I understand material and the objects we live with. Her photography conveys a sense of calm, sensitivity, and an honest beauty that feels very close to my own way of seeing.

I’m delighted to share a small glimpse of her work with you today.

Exploring the presence of materials through form, texture and proportion.

Each piece is shaped by hand, allowing the material to guide the process and reveal its own character.
