A huge thank you to all the incredible volunteers in Aldeburgh!

There are far too many people to mention individually, but this Volunteers’ Week, it felt important to recognise just how valued and appreciated you all are. The town simply would not be what it is today without your time, dedication, kindness, and ongoing support.

From community events and local organisations to helping neighbours, supporting charities, protecting our coastline, and bringing people together, volunteers are at the very heart of Aldeburgh life.

Thank you for everything you do to make our town such a special place to live, work, and visit.

Residents across East Suffolk are being reminded about the changes to household waste and recycling collections, with new bins and food waste caddies now being delivered ahead of the updated service now starting.

The new system is designed to help households recycle more and reduce the amount of waste going into general rubbish bins. While some items still cannot currently be recycled — including vacuum dust, broken crockery, polystyrene, and certain food pouches — many households are expected to see a significant reduction in the amount of rubbish they throw away once using the new services correctly.

Under the new arrangements, residents will be encouraged to separate recyclable materials and food waste more effectively, helping improve recycling rates and reduce environmental impact across the district.

Key guidance for residents includes:
• Use the food waste caddy for leftover food and food scraps
• Continue separating recyclable items correctly
• Only place non-recyclable items in the black rubbish bin
• Check local collection guidance if unsure about specific items

Residents who have not yet received their new wheelie bin or food waste caddy are being encouraged to contact their local authority directly for assistance.

East Suffolk Council says the changes are part of wider efforts to create cleaner, greener communities while making recycling easier and more efficient for households across East Suffolk.

The short survey is designed to help the council better understand the needs, experiences, and views of people living and working in East Suffolk, ensuring services continue to reflect what matters most to local communities.

The survey remains open all year round, with responses helping to inform future planning and budget decisions. Residents are being encouraged to share their views, with all information securely handled in line with UK data protection regulations.

Aldeburgh Town Council would like to extend a huge thank you to the incredible team at RNLI Aldeburgh Lifeboat for their support during yesterday’s Mayor’s Sunday parade from the Moot Hall to the Parish Church. ❤️

The council is enormously grateful for the RNLI team’s help and support throughout the event, and quite simply, the day would not have been the same without them.

Aldeburgh is truly blessed to have such a dedicated RNLI crew at the heart of the community — not only for supporting important local occasions, but for the vital work they carry out every day helping, protecting, and looking after people along our coastline.

Thank you never quite feels enough for all that you do for our town and everyone within it. Please can everyone say THANK YOU to this amazing team of staff and volunteers, for all that they do!

BEACHGOERS WARNING ⚠️ Please SHARE!

If you're visiting the Norfolk or Suffolk coast this summer, please take care when walking in shallow water or along the shoreline.

Venomous weever fish have been reported along parts of the East Anglian coastline. These small fish bury themselves beneath the sand in shallow water, making them very difficult to spot. If stepped on, their dorsal spines can cause an extremely painful sting.
What to watch for:
• Fish hidden just beneath the sand
• Sudden, intense pain if stung
• Higher risk when paddling barefoot

Stay safe by:
• Wearing beach shoes or sandals in the water
• Shuffling your feet rather than stepping heavily
• Keeping an eye on children playing at the water’s edge
• Seeking first aid if stung

If you are stung, immerse the affected area in hot (not scalding) water as soon as possible, as heat can help break down the venom. Seek medical advice if symptoms are severe or continue.

Aldeburgh came together today to celebrate the town’s new Mayor at the annual Mayor’s Sunday celebrations.

Led by the wonderful The Band of The Royal British Legion, Leiston, the parade made its way from the Moot Hall to the Parish Church, welcoming new and longstanding dignitaries, councillors, representatives from local organisations, and members of the community. Also proudly taking part were representatives from the RNLI, Fire Brigade, and Coastguard, alongside the Mayor’s family and invited guests.

Following the church service, guests enjoyed another fantastic performance from the band outside the church before gathering at the Old Generator Station for refreshments and the Mayor’s Address.

Congratulations once again to Cllr Kevin Webster on his appointment as Mayor of Aldeburgh Town Council, and to Cllr TJ Haworth-Culf in her role as Deputy Mayor.

Here’s to a year of positive progress, strong community spirit, and continuing the important work of supporting and strengthening the town, with people remaining firmly at the heart of everything the council does.

There’s no need to feel too sorry for the black rubbish bin just yet — there are still some items that can’t currently be recycled, including things like vacuum dust, broken crockery, polystyrene, and food pouches.

However, with the new Recycling and Waste services launching in June, households may be surprised at just how little waste will actually need to go into the general rubbish bin when the new system is used correctly.
