Huge congratulations to Kay and Tom who tie the knot today!

Both Kay and Tom’s rings subtly tell their love story through their designs.

Kay’s ring is set with diamonds and a sapphire from sentimental jewellery – thirteen diamonds to represent the thirteen years they have been together. The stones are set and scattered like stars, so catch the light beautifully. She will most likely wear this ring on its own, and we might remake her engagement ring bought elsewhere in the future.

Tom’s ring is a storybook of symbols to represent each family member. A cute little mole for Kay, a train for their train obsessed son, and a Christmas tree for their Christmas baby. I adore how personal these are and how they only make sense to Kay and Tom!

Two wonderful compliments yesterday in my consultations - the first from a couple who’d had a frustrating experience creating their bespoke engagement ring elsewhere, and the other from a chap designing a surprise engagement ring.

I pride myself on listening carefully to what you’re after and asking the right questions to teasing out what is important to you. While you’re talking, I’m getting ideas that I will then show you through sketches. Very often, it’s the first or second thing I draw that you fall in love with.

To hear that this isn’t the experience you receive everywhere - that often it’s a struggle to be heard and understood, or the design process is over complicated and convoluted - gives me a great sense of pride in the service I offer and my skills as a designer.

So these were lovely moments yesterday 🥰 I really love what I do!

A lovely example of the alternative October birthstone as an accent stone in this five stone ring - tourmaline.

The centre of this ring is a pretty moss agate, on which, the mossy inclusions coordinate perfectly with the first green tone of the green tourmaline. The baguette diamonds on each end provide some sparkle to this earthy design.

I’m a big fan of the mixed setting styles in this ring - talon shaped claws and side only bars.

Tom and Zoe found the perfect vintage engagement ring but it was very thin and delicate. Tom approached me to have it remade to a quality where she could enjoy wearing it without fear.

Using all the original stones and metal plus some additional new gold, we remade the design with a few minor tweaks - lower profile settings, a heavier weight band, and all yellow gold instead of white gold settings for the diamonds.

The ring has been finished for some time and I hadn’t gotten around to sharing it, but I ran into Zoe at a wedding show and it was so lovely to meet her and see the ring on her hand where it belongs! So here it is for you all to enjoy ✨

The lovely Robert creates an advent calendar for his wife Anne made up of gifts for her, days out for them and ending on the 24th December with the ‘big’ present. Last year, he put one of Design Consultation vouchers in the calendar for her big gift!

When I was struck down with Bells Palsy, it delayed us starting the project, but thankfully they were very patient and she now has her gift in time for the next Christmas 😅

Anne had always loved the look of layered chains and wanted to repurpose a chain and locket she already had as a starting point with two new contrasting chains. She picked hayseed for the shortest chain and a spiga chain for the centre one.

The end result is a really wearable piece that I’m sure get lots of compliments ✨

So much love around right now! I am so happy to be sharing all these proposal moments with you after secretly working away on them in the background for some time.

Ryan had a good idea of what Abbie wanted but couldn’t find it in the usual places. He chose this stunning pale yellow pear cut diamond as the centrepiece to the ring, set horizontally across the finger.

I love the contrast between the warm diamond and the cool bright white of the chunky platinum band.

Going bespoke meant that Ryan could add some super thoughtful touches like the couple’s birthstones set inside.

He popped the question this weekend and it’s so good to see it on her hand!

Y A Y !!!

I am so happy that I can now share the beautiful Rosie’s engagement ring! Keeping this stunning ring a secret has been tough but such a joy to bring to life for Danielle to propose in Crete last week.

I’ve known Rosie for several years now as a school mum, but she was also in my husband Marc’s school year right from prep school. Rosie has recently joined the wedding world by retraining as the most amazing celebrant. I had the privilege of seeing her at work at my bestie Photographer ‘s grandmother’s memorial, and it’s been incredible to watch her business grow and develop. But back to the ring! Danielle approached me at the Ampthill Wedding Show last year while supporting Rosie on her stand to discuss a possible engagement ring for Rosie and we not so subtly measured her ring size and looked at my metal samples.

Danielle fell in love with the warm tone of hazelnut gold and loved the idea of a fairly simple ring but with an orange centre stone to reflect Rosie’s favourite colour and the sunset in Crete where Danielle would be whisking Rosie off to.

She selected this SUNNING burnt orange diamond in a pear cut as the centre piece, claw set in hazelnut gold with a subtle heart shaped gallery bar at the round end of the stone.

It is always so humbling to be chosen to create these super symbolic and meaningful pieces for my clients, but it hits extra hard when it’s for someone I know!

Both Danielle The Sundae Service and Rosie are the most beautiful souls and I’m so glad they’ve each other. Both of these ladies have the most incredible calming aura. Danielle is Rosie’s biggest hype girl and super fan as well as her partner in life. I could not be happier for them 🫶

October babies have the choice of two beautiful birthstones - tourmaline or opal. We learnt all about the traditional birthstone opal yesterday, and today is all about tourmaline.

Here’s a selection of pieces from my archives that include tourmaline, which is usually seen in pink or green (or sometimes both!)

Tourmaline is a fantastic gemstone that comes in a wide range of colours from blue, to green, to pink (red or pink tourmalines are known as rubellites) or even half green, half pink ‘watermelon’ tourmaline.

T O U R M A L I N E • F A C T S

🔺Tourmaline is the only common mineral to crystallise in the trigonal system; no other common mineral has three-sided prisms.

🌈 The term tourmaline was derived from the Singhalese phrase tura mali, meaning “stone mixed with vibrant colours”.

💪 With a Moh’s scale hardness of 7-7.5, tourmaline is a relatively durable stone for jewellery.
