I have always been ever so slightly obsessed with colour and jewellery as all my friends will tell you and on nearly all my trips to different parts of the globe I have come back with some treasure or other to bedeck either myself, a friend or my home. Now with a little more time on my hands I have started creating my own jewellery using, primarily, Czech glass beads which I think are the most stunning I have ever come across. I use the beads to create pieces of jewellery that echo the colours of the local landscape and further afield. I think the most beautiful colours are natural colours and so I am combining these and the textures of the beads to reflect the shades I see everyday when I am out walking in my local area. Nearly all the beads I use are imported from the Czech Republic. There is so much history to these jewel-like treasures, that, I believe, is what gives them such character and depth. Beads have been made in the Czech Republic since Roman times, and bead making is now a thriving industry in Northern Bohemia having come through turbulent times previously. Many of the beads are produced in small family run factories , at one time there were over 2000 factories in Northern Bohemia which has the natural resources to make such high quality glass.
