Are you planning to lead the Junior Duke in your school next year?
Why not try this! 🙌

Ms. Emily is the headteacher of the Forest School at GEMS Metropole School - Motor City and while teachers regularly oversee the signing of Junior Duke booklets on a daily basis, the school hosts special signing mornings, where Ms. Emily is present. We loved hearing how motivated the children were after being recognised for their achievements at these signing sessions:

“These special drop-off sessions give children the exciting opportunity to proudly share their journals and achievements with Ms. Emily, who personally recognises and celebrates their hard work, perseverance, independence, and creativity. The children absolutely love these moments, and the opportunity to show their completed challenges to a Headteacher provides extra motivation and encouragement for many of our young learners.”

If you are planning to take over leading the Junior Duke Award in your school next year, make sure to update the portal to reflect this! 🤩

🌟OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT: Teddy-James takes on papier-mâché! 🌋

From planning to fruition, Teddy-James created an impressive volcano structure for the art/craft challenge of his Bronze Junior Duke award. He even considered his display options before beginning. He chose a canvas so that his art could either be hung or laid flat.

Weighing and measuring, mixing and moulding, paper mâché gives a child freedom to express themselves through art whilst also learning the process takes planning, patience and perseverance.

The reward? A sculpture that is totally their own. 🤩

We love hearing from our Junior Duke schools! 🙌

Mrs Campbell, the Junior Duke Leader from Perrott Hill British School Prague, talks us through how they choose to run the Junior Duke Award in their school.

Some schools choose to run the Award with children completing challenges at home and being assessed in school, some run it as an extra curricular and some, like Perrott Hill, do a bit of both. That’s the beauty of the Junior Duke, it works in many different ways!

How do you run the Junior Duke Award in your school? 🌟

Basic but essential skill learning starts young! ✂️✍️

Lily took on the challenge of learning 3 new skills in her Micro Duke booklet. Each skill requires not only the child to take on a new experience, but also for the parent to step back and let them give it a go on their own. Which is easier said than done when it comes to scissors!

However, Lily managed marvellously! Learning not only how to safely cut shapes with sharp scissors, but also learning the importance of persistence when it came to skipping and being observant of details when drawing her mum. It takes just a few simple skills to build the confidence of a young person, as shown by Lily’s big skipping jump! 🤩

Congratulations to our High Performance Learning Competition winner, Frederico! 🏆

This very talented young person wrote an impressive piece for the ‘Building an Inclusive Society’, Junior Category, examining peace around the world and how educating children on empathy and respecting the cultures of others is one of the first steps to peace around the world.

As proud partners of HPL and of the category, Dawn packaged up Frederico’s prize, ready to send off to him in Egypt. 🌍

Dawn and Lisa headed to COBIS, here’s what they got up to - volume up! 🔊

“Lisa and I have had a brilliant few days at the COBIS - Council of British International Schools conference listening to Head Teachers, students, exhibitors and school leaders from around the world, sharing ideas and exploring the future of education.

The students’ panel session was especially powerful. Of Ai and social media, they said:

• “Real is becoming rare.”

• “Teach us to think critically and question everything.”

• “Education should be more than knowledge; it should give us experiences.”

A standout talk from Craig Considine from Tanglin Trust School highlighted the importance of experiential learning, resilience, independence and life skills.

For us, this reinforces why the Junior Duke Award is so valuable in preparing children aged 3-13 for life beyond academics.

Another key takeaway came from a Colombian school that spoke about moving from simply communicating to parents, to truly partnering with them. A great reminder that education works best when schools, students and families work together.”

We are delighted to welcome Amadeus International School Vienna, Austria to the Junior Duke Community. Another country added to the Junior Duke map, thank you!📍

We will continue to reach out to even more countries, introducing them to the Junior Duke Award and giving children the opportunity to learn essential life skills, growing their independence, confidence and resilience. 🙌
