Bedfordshire Freemasons

Bedfordshire Freemasons The official page for Freemasonry in Bedfordshire. We have 56 Lodges meeting at 6 Centres across Bedfordshire.

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. We are a secular society open to men of any race, religion, political belief or status. Based upon the traditions of medieval stonemasons who built our castles and cathedrals, today we still use the stonemason’s tools as symbols of our aim to ‘build’ better men and a better world for everyon

e, whatever their background. As Freemasons, we use four principles to help define our path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity. In our present uncertain times, these principles are as important today as they have ever been.

☕🥓 Veterans & Emergency Services Breakfast Club – Ampthill

Bedfordshire Freemasons were proud to support another successful Veterans and Serving Armed Forces & Emergency Services Breakfast Club at the Wingfield Club, Ampthill, on 30 May.

Led by Ben Keenan and Nick Carney, a team of Freemasons helped provide a warm welcome, hearty breakfast and great company for veterans, serving personnel and members of the emergency services. Also lending their support were the newly elected Mayor of Ampthill, Councillor Gary Summerfield, and the Lady Mayoress, Sue Summerfield.

The event welcomed around 30 attendees and was further supported by John Philips of Op NOVA, part of the Forces Employment Charity, which assists veterans in accessing vital support services.

A fantastic example of Bedfordshire Freemasons working with the local community and supporting those who serve and have served our communities. 👏

Future Breakfast Clubs take place on 20 June, 18 July, 15 August and 19 September (9:30am–11:00am).

members and guests recently attended an ‘Italian Night’ fundraising event at Mamma Concetta Restaurant in Bedford.

They were treated with a splendid Italian themed meal and of course, in true Britalia Garibaldi refreshment was flowing!😀

The gathering raised a total of £665👍 and all proceeds will go to one of the Master, Biagio De Michele’s local charities, SOS Saturday Outreach Services.👏

👏 A big thank you to everyone who supported the recent PSA testing and screening event, which proved to be a very enjoyable and well attended occasion — more social gathering than testing event! 😊

Special thanks to members of the Provincial Executive, the Provincial Grand Almoner for doubling up as our “David Bailey” 📸 for the day, and to the Provincial Grand Stewards whose hard work ensured everything ran smoothly. 👏

📊 Statistics from the day:

✅ 125 tests booked
✅ 121 completed
🟢 101 Green readings
🟠 13 Amber readings
🔴 7 Red readings

We also had some 48 members of the public attend!

One member of the public messaged afterwards as follows:

"I attended the PSA testing yesterday at the Keep. This is the second time I have been for a test however it was the first time I had visited Bedfordshire Freemasons.

I would like to pass on my thanks for the efficient system you had in place & for how welcoming everyone was. I would have stayed for some tea & pastries however I was working a night shift so needed to get back home!"

A full summary from GFCT will be shared as soon as it is received.

👏 Members and visitors of Britalia Garibaldi Lodge recently raised £350 through donations, an auction and a raffle in support of SOS Saturday Outreach Service in Bedford.

The Master of the Lodge, Biagio De Michele, presented the cheque to SOS Founder Beverley Everitt and her son Brandon.

SOS and its dedicated volunteers provide free hot food, drinks, clothing and essential supplies to homeless and vulnerable people every Wednesday and Saturday evening in Bedford, supporting between 80 and 100 people at each session.

A great example of Bedfordshire Freemasons supporting their local community. 💙

The Bedfordshire Lodge of All Saints No. 8776, Leighton Buzzard, was pleased to welcome John Morrow, Provincial Senior Grand Warden, representing the Provincial Grand Master, Nick Edwards, for the Installation of Paul Tofield as Master.

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of a 60-year certificate to Norman Kitchen 🎖️ Initiated in 1966 whilst serving in the Merchant Navy, Norman joined All Saints Lodge in 1981 and has since given outstanding service to the Lodge and Province.

John’s presentation, reflecting on Norman’s life and Masonic journey, was met with warm and spontaneous acclamation from the Brethren 👏

A memorable and enjoyable evening for all 🔷

👏 3 Pillars - Feeding the Homeless Dunstable Shines on Bank Holiday Monday 👏

3 Pillars Dunstable were delighted to welcome a number of distinguished visitors to see first-hand the fantastic progress of 3 Pillars Dunstable since its launch in February.

Guests enjoyed a tour of the Dunstable Masonic Centre, observing food preparation and the vital work behind the scenes—providing hot meals, clothing, toiletries, and support for those in need.

The visit then moved to Ashton Square, where volunteers were in action serving the community. Smiles were everywhere as our street friends enjoyed a hearty meal and warm company. ❤️

Despite slightly lower numbers, the team’s dedication never wavered, with new volunteers coming forward and generous donations received.

Special thanks to founder Ged Dempsey for his support, as plans grow to expand this incredible initiative into other areas.

A truly inspiring example of Freemasonry in action, making a real difference in the community.

St John’s Lodge 8817 closed the season in memorable style with a very special Installation 👏✨

Hugh Love, Past APGM, had the honour of installing his son-in-law Mathew Cooper into the Chair of King Solomon—making it a truly personal and proud occasion 👨‍👩‍👦

In attendance was Paul Talbot, Provincial Junior Grand Warden, representing the Provincial Grand Master, Nick Edwards. 👏

The meeting was superbly supported, with distinguished Brethren from Bucks, Herts and from Beds, the Past Provincial Grand Master, the Deputy and Assistant Grand Masters , 12 Grand Officers and many Active Provincial Officers 🤝

A ceremony full of warmth, dignity and pride, continuing St John’s strong tradition of family connections ❤️

The Michael Sawyer Lodge of Reunion meeting on Saturday 25th April saw a very special presentation, as Ian Church, on behalf of the Province of Bedfordshire, presented Raymond Holmwood with his 50th Anniversary Certificate. 🎖️

Raymond was initiated into Southgate Lodge No. 1950 in 1974, going on to serve as Worshipful Master in 1995. His Masonic journey has also included Watling Street Chapter and Lodge No. 1639 in Buckinghamshire. More recently, he joined Ampthill Lodge No. 2490 in 2023 and Ampthill Chapter in 2024.

True to the wonderful ethos of the Michael Sawyer Lodge of Reunion, Ray is regularly collected and supported to attend meetings — a fine example of Masonic care in action. 🤝

The evening was further enhanced by an engaging talk from Mark Watson on investigative forensic science within the police service. 🔍

A memorable occasion celebrating both dedication and fellowship.

The Supreme Grand Chapter Investiture on Thursday 30th April was, as ever, a resplendent and memorable occasion ✨

For Bedfordshire Companions accompanying the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, Nick Edwards, the highlights were the well-deserved promotion of Barrie House to Past Grand Sword Bearer, along with Chris Wells being appointment to Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in recognition of their enthusiasm, support and commitment to the Royal Arch 👏

Likewise for Stephen Kirby a member of Someries Lodge No 5202, via the Province of Buckinghamshire, being appointment to Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies.

A well-attended and enjoyable luncheon rounded off a superb day 🍽️
