Ratbags are the important people in my life, initially my nieces but now also my dogs. All my jewellery is handmade. Nothing is mass produced or made in bulk.

This means that every piece is a one off, no two pieces are ever identical.

So in order to stop this becoming a gardening page I thought I’d show you a new pendant I’ve been working on. It’s an organic ‘molten’ pendant, sterling silver, unique and definitely one of a kind. I think you’ll either love it or hate it. I’m definitely in the love 🥰 camp.

My peony is officially flowering 🎉🎉🎉
I moved into my house in 2018 found this plant amongst the overgrown weeds and have nurtured it.
I’m not known for my patience 😃😍

Any gardeners here?
I moved into my house 8 years ago and the back garden was really overgrown. I found this peony, moved it so it got more sun but it’s not yet flowered. Last year I got little buds and this year they’re bigger. If it doesn’t flower this year what am I doing wrong?

So I’m home again after doing a Finishing Class at vanillaink_cic. It was the first class I’ve taken there and it was great.
The day started with a rough and ready copper ring soldered with lots of silver solder.
I spent most of the day then filing, sanding, polishing and adding texture to the ring. Using fantastic tools and meeting some wonderful people

The pictures show the various progress of the ring. 😍

The good times continued with dinner and watching a wonderful play at the trontheatre.

Everywhere I look this weekend there’s wonderful fairs on all around NI.
Me well I’m heading to Glasgow to do a one day jewellery course tomorrow.
Every day’s a school day and I get the opportunity to meet up with friends at the same time.
I’ll let you know how I get on. 😀

Morning everyone 😁
My social media presence has been pretty appalling recently but today I’m doing my first craft fair of the year.
I’m at Coleraine Rugby Club until 4pm with the wonderful Naturally North Coast and Glens.
Pop in if your around. Some wonderful quality wares for sale. X

Oh and I’m next to the yummy cake stall and a lady is selling bacon baps at the entrance. What more do you need?

Precious Metal Prices

Today the price of gold has hit an all time high. Which is great if you’re investing in gold not too great if you’re a jeweller trying to create and sell jewellery.

Silver is also shooting it in price. The graph below shows the rise in silver prices over the past 6 months.

In October last year I bought a 25cm length of 3mm silver wire. It cost £33. Last week the very same length of wire cost me £58.

Today the silver price is £82 / ounce.

The implications of selling at fairs is quite significant… I have some downtime before doing fairs this year but I will have to look carefully at my prices.

So after taking a break from jewellery making since Christmas I’ve ordered some new stock and I’m ready to create some new designs.
I love this time of year for making. There’s no real time pressure and I can allow myself some time to ‘play’ and see what I end up making.

At last my last commission has arrived thanks to Royal Mail sending it on a detour to Warrington for a couple of days 🤔.
So all I have to do now is to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
