I am Bernice Le Cornu Cantrill, a designer
maker.

Pewter
The pewter I use is a very high grade alloy,
lead free and tin rich. Made to BS Spec 5140
(spec A),
it contains tin, antimony and copper. Pewter is considered a valuable metal in its
own right and, because of the high degree of
finish it takes, does not need plating or
painting. Pewter does not tarnish, as silver does, it only
needs buffing with a soft cloth to keep the
finish as it was whe

n purchased. If left
unpolished it will benefit from a wash in
warm soapy water from time to time. If left neglected over time it will need a nonabrasive
polish followed by a rinse in warm
soapy water and to be dried with a soft cloth. Pewter is suitable for use inside or outdoors
as it doesn’t rust. I was born and bred in Jersey in the Channel
Islands. I moved away from the island to London
where I lived and worked for 20 years. I came to Worcestershire with the idea that I
might find a slower pace of life! However now I have found more time to
return to my creativity. What I do
My first foray into the world of creativity was
through woodcarving and sculpture. I
enjoyed starting with an ordinary chunk of
material and making something beautiful
appear from it. I began designing and making patterns for
jewellery as an enjoyable pastime. My pieces
were small enough to work with on the
kitchen table, still gave me the satisfaction of
sculpting and fitted in with work and
available space at the time. They also
provided presents for family and gifts for
friends. In due course I had more time to develop my
craft and this was when I embarked on
courses to further my knowledge and develop
techniques for casting pewter pieces, etching
and working with sheet pewter. Increased demand from friends wanting
something a little different and family
needing personalised presents made me
realise I had a small business opportunity…
and I haven’t looked back since. My designs are popular at craft fairs and also
sell through several outlets in a number of
localities. What to know
All my designs are original. I cast, polish and hand finish each piece
making it unique. I personalise many of my items. I take commissions. I provide demonstrations at venues. I offer one day courses.

Studio Update.

My studio will be closed from 23rd March for around 6/8weeks due to some planned personal leave.

This is only temporary, I will keep you updated during this time, with a few posts on here, to give a date for my return.

While I am away, my pewter pieces are available from the studio or the Made in the Museum display cabinet situated in the museum shop.

Thank you for all your support. As a small business, it means a great deal to me.

I am very much looking forward to seeing you all when I return to re-open.

With thanks,

Regards

Bernice

Another collaboration with Eric from Lyons Wood Emporium to make these badged gavels for the Mason's Lodge Commission.

The gavels were handmade by Eric, and I then made the pewter badges to go on each one.

They turned out lovely, and it is always a pleasure to work together with another local craft business here in the museum.

These puffin keyrings were made for a customer who wanted the perfect meaningful gift.

They turned out lovely. I really enjoyed making these.

I will be heading over shortly to open up the studio for today, and it's looking to be a lovely sunny day.

It’s lovely when the weekend starts with some sunshine!

Here’s a matching set I made with a hammered design slim cuff bracelet, and a pair of heart drop earrings.

I’ll be opening up shortly for the weekend.

One of my 'real flower' greetings cards being prepared for shipping...hope the recipient loves it as much as I enjoyed designing it, grown yellow bidens and maidenhair fern before in the summer but never pressed them🌼🌿

I would like to send my wholehearted thanks for your amazing support this year.

As a small business both returning customers and new faces alike are very important as are those of you who place commissions with me for bespoke pieces.

I do hope you have all enjoyed your Christmas break and wish you a Happy New Year.

I look forward to seeing you in 2026.

This is the leaf patterned earrings and pendant set that I shared the other day, in each step of making it.

The finished items were oxidised and I’ve made these ones with a shiny finish, and they are gift boxed and ready to go.

These can be as the set or purchased individually.

It’s the last day opening for the museum for 2025, I’m here and open until 4pm if you are still looking for that last minute gift or Christmas tree decoration.

This was a lovely necklace to make, a spaniel running to a new owner this Christmas.
