I was delighted to select DingYi Cao ()and Muzi Wang as the two winners of this year’s Graduate Show at Birmingham’s School of Jewellery earlier this year.

Their work is very different but both caught my attention for their individuality, imagination and the strength of their ideas.

You can see a selection of their work on display at the gallery throughout September. So if you’d like a chance to discover some of the exciting new talent emerging right on our doorstep do pop in!

I had the privilege of spending yesterday evening at the School of Jewellery Graduate Show judging this year’s BA (Hons) Jewellery and Objects graduates.

The calibre of work on display was incredibly high, making the final decision far from easy. I was really impressed by the creativity and skill shown by this year’s students.

Congratulations to and , whose exceptional work particularly stood out. I’m delighted to announce that they will each be exhibiting their pieces at Artisan Alchemy Gallery over the coming months, which will be an excellent opportunity for our visitors to discover some of the exciting talent emerging right on our doorstep.

Thank you to everyone at for such a wonderful evening and for continuously championing the next generation of makers. It was an absolute pleasure to be involved.

These two rings were made for sisters using jewellery they inherited from their mother.

They came to me with a small collection of gold and diamond pieces that held great sentimental value, but weren’t really pieces they would wear themselves. Instead, the sisters wanted to keep that connection with their mother while transforming them into something more wearable and personal.

They’d always loved my opal rings, so together we decided to create two new pieces in that same style. I sourced the opals individually, one a beautiful rich blue-green, the other white and luminous, and reworked their mother’s gold and diamonds into wide textured 18ct gold bands.

I love working on commissions like these, they’re always incredibly meaningful to make. There’s something very rewarding about taking jewellery tied to someone’s memory and giving it a new life.
