Kate Phipps Jewellery I am a contemporary jewellery designer maker. My jewellery is handmade using precious metals, gemsto For as long as I can remember, I have loved jewellery.

I love wearing, designing and making jewellery. Creating jewellery that people enjoy to wear gives me a huge buzz. I am inspired by the design possibilities that emerge when learning new making techniques and enjoy the challenge of finding ways to incorporate these techniques in my work. My jewellery is handmade using sterling silver, gold, gemstones, pearls and semi-precious beads. I experiment with different combinations of shapes, colours and textures. I often design as I make, starting with a particular shape or gemstone that I want to incorporate in the piece. I then combine this with other materials until I have a vision of how I would like the end product to look. Some of my designs evolve from previous pieces that I feel I can add to, modify or improve. My current collections are largely based around different applications of press forming and stone setting. Press forming is a technique for creating three-dimensional shapes from flat metal sheet. I make different acrylic formers which determine the size and shape of the pressed metal. My pieces are wearable, contemporary and elegant. My jewellery is hallmarked at Birmingham Assay Office.

Did you know sapphire comes in far more colours than just blue?

Green, pink, orange, yellow, purple, white and more - there’s a sapphire to suit almost every colour lover.

As September’s birthstone, sapphire is a beautiful choice for anyone celebrating a birthday this month, but it’s also one of my favourite gemstones for rings that are worn every day. Although it’s not quite as hard as diamond, it’s durable enough to stand up well to daily wear.

If you could choose any sapphire colour for a ring, which would it be? 💙💚💗💛💜

I’ll be at Edgbaston Artisan Market tomorrow from 10am to 3pm, and this gorgeous, dainty Facet Line pendant will be coming with me.

Set with a sparkling pear shaped cubic zirconia, the clean lines of the setting are inspired by the outline of the gemstone itself. It’s simple, elegant and easy to wear, whether for everyday or a special occasion.

If you’re planning a visit to the market, do come and say hello and take a look at what’s new. I’ll have a selection of handmade jewellery with me, along with examples of bespoke and remodelling work.

Some late August love for peridot. One of my favourite stones. It's the birthstone for August and was treasured by the Ancient Egyptians, who called it "gem of the sun". It's vibrant, zingy green looks gorgeous set in yellow, rose and white gold as well as silver.
Which do you like it in best?

I’ll be back at Edgbaston Artisan Market this Saturday from 10am to 3pm with a selection of handmade jewellery, including unique gemstone pieces, silver and gold jewellery, and examples of bespoke commissions and jewellery remodelling.

If you’ve been thinking about treating yourself, looking for a gift, or would like to chat about transforming unworn or inherited jewellery into something you’ll enjoy wearing again, do come and say hello.

This will be my last market until September, so it’s a great chance to see my work in person before then. I hope to see you there.

Two new Facet Line pendants, two very different personalities ✨

I’m setting the stones for these latest additions to the collection - a rich purple-red marquise shaped rhodolite garnet and a sparkly clear pear shaped cubic zirconia. Both are set in recycled silver and catch the light beautifully in their own way.

I’ll have both pendants with me tomorrow at Birmingham Botanical Gardens Artisan Market from 11am-5pm, before they’re added to my website in the coming weeks.

Which would you choose - the deep colour of the garnet or the sparkle of the cubic zirconia?

A pop of pink for summer ✨

This new pink tourmaline ring features a vibrant gemstone set in recycled sterling silver, with a hand hammered band that catches the light beautifully. Handmade in my Birmingham workshop, each ring has its own unique character.

It’s now available on my website and I’ll also have it with me tomorrow at Moseley Arts Market (9am-3pm) if you’d like to see it in person.

Three Saturdays, three chances to browse handmade jewellery in person ✨

I’ll be bringing a selection of ready to wear pieces, and information about bespoke commissions and jewellery remodelling to:

📍 Moseley Arts Market - Saturday 25 July, 9am-3pm
📍 Birmingham Botanical Gardens Artisan Market - Saturday 1 August, 11am-5pm (my first time exhibiting there!)
📍 Edgbaston Artisan Market - Saturday 8 August, 10am-3pm

The photo features one of my newest designs - a lace textured mini swift pendant. Inspired by the swifts soaring overhead on warm summer evenings, it’s available in a choice of textures alongside matching earrings.

I’d love to see you at one of the markets over the next few weeks.
