Jijicraft

Jijicraft I create handmade jewellery, specialising in earrings. I am also working on launching monthly themed boxes! Keep your eyes peeled!

I work with variety of mediums and launch small batches of earrings at a time (available to buy through Etsy). Creating colourful handmade pieces to brighten up your day. A little bit about me:
Back in 2010 I started to create earrings from upcycled materials. This is when Jijicraft was originally created. The profit I made from this small business got me through University. I mainly used money I

made for fun. Fast forward 11 years and 2 degrees, I have spent 9 years working in further education as a teacher of both Photography and English Language. I continued dabbling in crafts and continued to make earrings for myself. I am now a mum of a very energetic 1 year old and will be looking after my daughter full time from September 2021. I started researching and experimenting with Polymer Clay early this year as a fun medium to create new, colourful and uplifting designs. Why I decided to pursue Jijicraft as a small business:
I found wearing fun earrings to work made me feel like myself again. Through 3 national lockdowns, childcare and full time work, I felt like I was losing my identity. Wearing fun earrings connected me to my playful and happy self. It became an important part of self-expression for me. I want to be able to share this creativity which I have more or less bottled up through full time work and career goals. Now I am ready to let my creativity go wild and explore jewelry making. I have started with what I know best (which is earrings), but I am really eager to continue to develop my skills into other pieces. About my products:
I pour my heart into all the products I make. I am my own harshest critic, which can be a good thing sometimes, but it has also stopped me from pursuing things in the past. All my products are made from high quality polymer clay. To keep costs down for now, I use stainless steel, silver toned earring pieces, but this is something I'd love to diversify as my business grows. For packaging, I source either already recycled materials, or materials which can either be re-used or recycled further. Some fun facts about me:
I moved to the UK when I was 10 from Georgia and I can speak 3 languages. I am environmentally conscious in all aspects of my life, making eco friendly swaps and changes as much as I can. I have a degree in Photography and absolutely love it. My favourite things to photograph are nature and my daughter (when she sits still for long enough!)
I absolutely love being a mum. I have over 100 houseplants, which have miraculously survived through my continued neglect over the last 2 years. I also absolutely love growing my own vegetables and fruits in my small garden. Note to my customers:
Being able to pursue a small business and try to take control of my own life will be the biggest accomplishment for me. I am so thankful for every view, like, share, review and sale of my creations. My heart does a little happy dance every time someone engages with my products which I have lovingly created. It feels absolutely amazing to share something I love with others. So for this support, I wholeheartedly THANK YOU for supporting small businesses. You have no idea how much this means to small business owners. Please know that every penny you spend goes back into my business and supports my small family directly.

How do you find your equilibrium?

For me it's all about connecting with nature. What a perfect time to do that now, as Spring approaches. 🌸

- Trial and Error

I've had my share of broken, burnt and unbaked pieces of clay. However these are all journeys to discovery and learning new ways of working with my chosen craft. Yes there are disappointments along the way, but without trial and error I won't be able to advance in my skill.

Sometimes I create a range I believe will be so popular, and then it isn't. These are all learning opportunities and I always find ways to use unused parts or broken pieces.

The key is not to let the errors get you down, it's one big experiment πŸ§ͺ

- Finishing Touches

Did you know that I always try to offer customisation to my earrings, where ever possible. For example I try to offer both silver and gold plated earring posts or hooks, and on some I even offer hypoallergenic options.

This is really important touch for me as I want to make sure you're happy with your products, and that you're able to express yourself in your unique style πŸ₯°

- Learn!

I've learnt so much in the last 2 years. About running a small business, intricacies of working with clay and accompanying tools, working to save money by using makeshift parts, but most of all, I learn from you! My lovely customers, and those who have even become friends!

Thank you for your continued support in my venture and it makes my soul happy knowing that you have bought something which I have created with my hands and heart. I hope it continues to bring you joy for many years to come.

- Snippet

The first time you create something you have to expect it not to be perfect. However by the time you have done something 100th time, you will start to see your progress and improvements. When I first started creating jewellery out of polymer clay, I couldn't help but compare my designs with other's on Social Media. However this idea allowed me to persevere and now I compare my earlier designs from 2 years ago to the pieces I have created most recently and I can't believe the incredible progress I have made!

Your ideas, contributions, purchases and kind words have really helped along the way. I learn so much through custom orders and people pushing me through my comfort zone.

So if you want to start something new, but are worrying it won't be 'good enough' focus on what WILL BE once you start and do something enough times.

I feel just as proud of my first designs, as the ones I make now!

- All about you!

I'm a small business owner who makes handmade jewellery amongst other things that take my fancy!

I'm passionate about creating beautiful, unique pieces that make my customers feel special. I take great pride in my work and strive to create something that is not only fashionable but also of the highest quality and long lasting.

I'm always looking for new ways to bring my designs to life, and I'm always open to suggestions from customers. I'm excited to continue creating beautiful jewellery that will make my customers smile!

I currently have 2 main jobs, I work in marketing but also teach an adult evening class once a week. I try to fit this all around my daughter who will be 4 this year. Life is busy, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Sun is going to be setting after 6pm soon, and I cannot be happier about this seasonal development! 😍

Why not add some colour to your outfits this year. A great way to do that is to include some chunky colourful hairclips to your styling. I create made-to-order hair clips in various shapes, colours and styles! As they are all made to order don't be afraid to get in touch and let me know if you would like something specific in terms of colour combination or shape styles.

Hi, it's me! πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

I know I am late to the party but I wanted to contribute a little to the challenge!

The first day was to discuss Brand Origins.

I started Jijicraft back in 2010 when I was at University. I did it as a hobby, but also to sell upcycled bead earrings on eBay to make some extra spending money while I was a student. I actually worked really well for me, as I was able to source materials from car boot sales, charity shops and donations from friends and family. I would sterilise the beads and make new things out of them!

Once I started teacher training in 2013, I put this business aside and focused on my career. Fast forward 7 years I was introduced to polymer clay, and the rest is history!

I decided that re-launching my business was a good idea, as I was feeling burnt out by my work and becoming a mother. This gave me something to focus on and control that was mine, and mine only. It really got me through some dark times!

I have recently gone back to work full time, so I don't have as much time (or energy to be honest!) to spend on here, however I have developed a smaller business plan for 2023, with only 4 launches across the year, which will keep my passion going for this small part of the internet.

As always, thank you to everyone who keep buying from me, even during the quiet times! Know that I see you, and I appreciate you! ❀️
