Matching wedding ring commission!

I was asked to make a pair of rings for a couple who in a pub called 'The Grove', so they had the idea that the rings should feature two trees intertwining.

Cast in 925 silver, one with a moss agate and one with amber, set from the back so they can be enveloped by the treetops.

Love how these turned out, with the textures of the roots and the bark. The first pic here is the couple wearing them on their honeymoon.

I'm pretty booked up for commissions, so if you'd like something cool making in time for christmas, it's best to get in touch sooner rather than later.

Some fun bits from the wax carving classes I taught on Friday and Saturday.

Here's another commission from a little while ago.

I was asked to do miniature silver versions of some children's favourite toys, to be charms for a bracelet for the childrens' mother.

I've includes some pics of the toys here. When I'm asked to do a relatively faithful reproduction of something, I request photos from various angles which I then piece together in my head to carve the miniature copy.

Wax carving workshops!

Here's an array of cool pieces that participants in my workshops have made in the last couple of years.

My next full day group session is on Friday 30th October at Silver & Steel in Bedminster.

This is probably the most complex and finely detailed ring I've carved so far!

Commissioned by a group of friends for a special birthday gal, cast in 9ct gold that they provided from old scrap bits of jewellery.

Each element here represents the birthday girl and one of her loved ones: the rose, the flaming horsehoe, briony flowers, monkey, olive branches, narrowboat and tiger.

This one took a fair amount of designing to get all the elements included in a nicely balanced way. I might do a post soon with the progression of sketches, to show a bit of the process of making a piece like this.

Massive thanks again to Sean at The Folklore Foundry for doing the casting. I always know a special piece is in good hands when I send the model to him to be cast in metal.

Check out this classic heart signet ring that Amy carved in one of my recent workshops.

There's one space left on my upcoming evening course, starting on Wednesday at my studio in Fishponds, BS16.

6pm to 8pm every Wednesday for 4 weeks. This is a small group class with a maximum of 3 people.

Here's another cool piece that I had to keep quiet about until it was given as a gift.

This was commissioned as a present for part of a wedding celebration.

It's an in-joke between the couple where, instead of doing a standard pinky swear, they place their hands like this to make a 'Pinky Square'.

I love getting quirky commissions like this, where the piece is going to be truly one of a kind.

Here's the first of a few commissions that I did a little while ago, but had to keep secret as they were special gifts:

Sun pendant, commissioned by Soma Raven Storer-farino for her mum.

The flames/rays are made from an old gold necklace that Soma provided and I melted down and reworked. The emerald also came from the necklace.

The citrine gem and the silver for the central disc were from an old silver ring that was also provided.

Nice to give new life to old bits of jewellery!
