"I have never really thought about the significance of a locket until experiencing such a huge personal loss and the painful grief that comes with it.
I was inspired by how we form memories, how they can feel abstract, out of reach and fragmented or even missing. But the core memories still remain, flashes come back to you and are overlapped with other moments. Sometimes we can not trust what we remember, which can change and embellish memories.
The once perfect hexagonal form of the locket is now fragmented, much like our memories. From the outside you catch glimmers of hope and flashes from white diamonds and bright cuts from the hand engraving. Opening the locket reveals small diamonds clustered in the middle connected via the engraved lines. Lines much like the synapses which form in our brian and connect our memories together."
Rebecca’s locket is available to buy in the shop and online as part of our Encapsulation exhibition, which will be on display until 19th September 2026.
