Sustainability on the stall: DIY displays!

First up is my new stud/small earring display, made from an old photo frame saved from the dump. A bit too beat up for pictures, but remove the hanging hardware and replace with some repurposed brass tube and you have something pretty snazzy! Show here with some WIP copper/silver earrings

Then onto one of a pair of new folding boards for securing necklaces etc with pushpins. These were originally cases for cheap art supply sets, a pair of which were salvaged from the roadside, stirpped and cleaned, with art supplies donated to deserving youth. Hardware was then stripped and new inserts made with some spare velvet from the stall and some bruised foamboard. Black spraypaint over the tags of the former owner (thanks dylan!) and jobs a god 'un!

Time will tell how they hold up, but they will be seeing action at this sunday's , and hopefully many markets to come!

Crossed Paths Signet || Recycled Silver

It's so rare that I get a good photo of my jewellery being worn, and even rarer that it is a candid one of me! (And not just my hairy knuckles, though you can swipe to see them). This beautiful shot is 100p% the result of and boy am I grateful!

This ring design is my absolute favourite, I wear it every day and have received many a complement. It has some fab features:

- low snag design to avoid catches
- minimalism in both aesthetic and resources used, but big visual impact
- super comfy, with a "D" shape shank rather than a perfect circle, the ring fits the natural finger shape with room for swelling and shifting in the heat/cold
- flexible designs with added elements such as beads, stamping/signets, faceted gems and gold elements.

If you want a piece yourself, just dm me your ring size and I will be in touch!

Each piece is handmade in Bristol with Recycled 925 Sterling Silver. No more tarnishing or eco-guilt! I want to make every customer happy, just drop me a line for any requests.

Some final snaps of the last pair of copper vessels before I get onto the next, and a short description of the sandstone of MontJuic, Barcelona:

"a sequence of conglomerates, sandstones, mudstones and marls due to the changing sedimentary conditions with variation of sea levels. Although the main mineral assemblage is quartz and feldspars, it includes small amounts of biotite, muscovite, zircon, chlorite and tourmaline, adding to the vibrant colours of the sediments."

There is a level of chaos and depth in these natural processes that an artist can only ever imitate.

But I find that trying to leave the marks of a time, place, technique and hand within this chaos is endlessly satisfying, like stucco on a historic façade, they are inherently transient, unless cherished by us.

Without TLC and with time and handling, most of my patinas would simply fade to brown. It is only the care for the object (and mineral wax) which slows this progression.

Anyway, rocks are cool, pots are cool, buy my vases!

Pretty in Pink! 💖

I updated my tourmaline crossover design with this cute pink tourmaline tumble chip. Interesting shape, somewhat reminiscent of a dumbbell or exclamation mark (!!), I think this may be a potential submission for the "unique stone" challenge.

I have been messing around a lot with these affordable tumble chips, and they can actually be filled and shaped by hand, as long as you are fine with a few failures!

Tourmaline || Oxidised 925 Silver (100% Recycled)

Still playing with tension setting, and it does not get more simple than this!

Two ~1mm holes and some work hardened tension are all that's needed to set this cute yellow tourmaline tumble chip securely, a project that's suitable for any beginner with the right stone!

A great ring to practice tapering from round to rectangular on the rolling mill, I think I will be making a few more of these for sale in smooth as butter 2mm recycled silver. They are super comfortable but sturdy enough to give a strong statement vibe!

DM me your ring size to pick out a tourmaline and bag a goodie!!

The client is happy! I am happy!
Open to new commissions for Q2 2022!

This commission was a real pain in the arse at times, but the end result made it all worth it!

This build uses a mixture of solid gold (earwires, prongs) and gold filled sheet/wire (collets & jumprings) to get the best of both worlds for the client!

However, Gold filled material is fabulous for reducing costs and rare-metal usage, but it adds a huge amount of complexity to a build, and is not as infinitely recyclable as a single alloy! Each soldering step requires the application of a barrier flux to deter oxidation, as any use of a file or polishing wheel will wear away at that precious gold!

I think a new tool time Tuesday is coming to show the gold polishing mop I made as a result!

.grinter came to visit this weekend and flew my minds eye back to her incredible art exhibition with the .people collective.

Georgia's work is an arboretum of inspiration, and I took a leaf out of her book in producing this texture sampler, impressing binding wire in copper prior to patination and a rough shine.

I love imagining the shape and style of wood-be commissions, and admiring a stunning collection of her signet rings lead to a possible hollow ring design integrating embossed sheet throughout, replicating the forest and flurry of leaf-motifs and texture that Georgia so clearly excels with!

Go and check out her work, I would love to see the inspiration you draw too!

*puns intented throughout*

I've been quiet lately working on a few orders, and as a novel thing, some commissions!

The commissioning process is slightly daunting, but exciting, especially for the initial design stage! For complex pieces that design stage includes some rough prototyping. Here I have used thrown together some scrap copper to mock up the collet and prongs that will be used to set this gorgeous CZ, with the final piece being a pair of droplet earrings in filled gold.

Fabricating collets from sheet is new to me, but may soon be a part of my gold-filled arsenal, as this material is hard to find in square or more exotic wire profiles/gauges.

Drop me a line if you have any designs you would like to discuss!

Waiting on a shipment of silver means time to focus on commission sketches. I have been practicing with (IbisPaintX), drawing on my phone.

Though not quite as satisfying as drawing with pen and paper, being able to use layers for masking and rescaling is great, and it is so much easier to redraft and share with the client.

Some simple droplet earrings for my aunt, using some ruby red CZs from her close friend.

if you are interested in commissioning something, why not drop me a dm!
