So folks, here’s the news.

I’ve decided I won’t be selling Hoots through retail for the foreseeable future.

The way we’ve been doing it has benefited nobody but the retailers. We don’t cut a big enough margin and we feel that a lot of the retailers charge too high a price for the end product.

I’m bored of chasing people for invoices.

The idea of hoots is to have a side hustle that generates an extra bit of cash for me, and a place to share a message. Secondly a way to donate to good causes with the profit we make.

That’s not happening enough at the moment. So I’m taking hold of the reigns and I’m saying.

“Let the wee man choose”

I’m not saying that we may not return in the future to retail but until we have a more solid platform to deliver great prices to consumer and retailer we are going to halt.

So you can now only buy Hoots from us. Directly via our website. I understand this may be a little bit annoying for some of you.

Actually we are the cheapest place to buy Hoots in the whole world.

It’s not the size of your army that counts in this war against the super powerful brands. It’s the size of their heart and the fight they’re willing to put up.

Hoots is for the people, I’m not here to get rich but I’m also not here to be fu**ed about.

6 years ago. I beat death and my life changed forever.

Imagine lying in a bed dying in your early thirties. Thinking, what will people say about me at my funeral? who will go?

I decided then to write my own eulogy. By living with kindness. Approach all encounters with love and good stuff will happen. The world is hard and bad at times. But it’s full of magic moments of beauty, kindness, peace, love and compassion. Keep an eye out for them, they are fleeting and will pass you by if your busy fu***ng about.

Shooting stars don’t fall on your lap. Get out and make an impact in whatever way you can.

DON’T F**K ABOUT WITH THIS LIFE. Grab it with both hands and let people know how amazing you are.

An invitation

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon.

I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true

I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.

If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, ‘Yes.’

It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.

I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Good morning Hootnam,

We have been working on a wee range of Asian (Hong Kong) to be precise inspired spicy condiments in jar format this time. My long suffering gf hails from the tropical foodie hinterland.

So in a homage to her and my love of all things Asian and spicy some new flavours are abound.

We don’t muck around, they will be spicy. They’ll have hints of secret Asian family recipes with a tiny Scottish edge. No haggis although my personal favourite meal - Japanese rice, fried haggis and toasted chilli oil and a crispy fried egg, a belter I may have to share with you all.

This wee lucky cat (Robert the Pus) will be giving you a wave from your cupboard or local deli soon. Designed by our wee rising sun designer pal .

Chinese proverbs ahead.

I’ve been wishing away winter here at Hoots HQ. The kitchen hasn’t quite made it past 8c. Technically I’m working in a fridge.

February has felt like an oasis in a desert. The sightings of sunshine, the wee wild garlic chasing their way to freedom. (Inevitable human consumption).

In truth it’s put a spring in my step. Also the boys in blue with Oval shaped balls may have had one over the auld enemy at the weekend has defo helped. 🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Bowling down the street in yer kilt in England feels both defiant and magnificently free.

Anyway back to chilli, I’m gonna turn these wee Thai beauts into a fermented mash. Next I’ll get out there in the sunshine and wander around the beautiful day and find some inspiration for the next part. So I’m the next few weeks I’ll have a white label on the website.

I hope everyone is doing ok out there. The winter can be tough, your NOT alone. Slip on yer shoes and let the cool air cheer you up. Before heading home to the latest hoots arrival waiting on your doorstep.

Let us soothe (burn) some love into you.
