Welsh Mountain Jewellery Jewellery & small household items crafted from naturally patterned Welsh Cambrian Slate & compliment It can exhibit a translucent surface when polished.

Using Welsh Cambrian, Slate, Welsh jasper & metals now indigenous to North Wales, Welsh Mountain Jewellery brings to life a 600 million year old geological history. Welsh, Cambrian Slate features some beautiful patterns which were formed 450 million year ago, this coincides with the slates subduction & the building of the Snowdonia Mountains in North Wales
Wales has Jasper among it's rocks. Mined on Pen Llyn & Anglesey until the 1930s[?], this striking red rock has many qualities. It can also contain pyrite & quartz. Related to the jasper is a Green Glassy Chert, which I have a small source of. The jasper was formed when iron rich sand was melted in the mid ocean trench by lava, the chert was formed when the lava erupted out onto the sea bed some 570 million years ago in the Iapetus Ocean. Two different histories, two different rocks; Slate from Gondwanaland, Jasper etc from Laurentia...two different continents with the Iapetus Ocean in between. Gondwanaland: England & Wales, Africa, Australia, South America, Antarctica & India
Laurentia: Now North America & Greenland but also North West Scotland & Anglesey

UPDATED:
Really sad we don't have a Beaumaris Artisan Market tomorrow. I guess though, it is an (unwanted & certainly unneeded!?) opportunity to visit Mona car boot where I have in the past picked up the odd item that comes in handy! This is the Pultra lathe that replaced the CAV round bed (pictured) I started learning lathework on & does many jobs in Welsh Mountain Jewellery's creation.
Many thanks to all that visited the stall today at Caernarfon! 🥰
The remaining dates for Beaumaris Artisan Market '26 are
Oct 4, 11, 18, 25
Nov 7, 15, 22
Dec 6, 13
I'll post up my current schedule for the Christmas run-up tomorrow

12/09/2026

Sadly, I've got car problems [bust radiator hose hopefully...nothing too serious🤞], but will be unable to attend the Beaumaris Artisan Market tomorrow.
Hopefully, we can get it sorted by Tuesday & Caernarfon 🤞🙏🙏🤞

The weather's not looking good for Saturday [40mph gusts!], but we'll be back at the Beaumaris Artisan Market for the next two Sundays!! Having the market cancelled in peak season has basically pulled the rug from under my (and probably several other trader's) feet! One of the points I 'made' but fb couldn't be bothered to publish is I'm actually running low on slate with the red & gold in it! What's happened is I've used up most of the 'good' stuff & have stuff with micro cracks & porous bits in it that need stabilising. I've tried 3 different pieces for drop earrings over the last 3 weeks & all need stabilising... which itself isn't a guaranteed success under the current low temp glaze method. So, quite a few things to jiggle + when I moved to Gogledd Cymru, I thought I'd keep & possibly improve my fitness, but the opposite seems to have happened! Photos are of my new walk up Tre'r Ceiri near Trefor & the granite quarry [mostly closed now, I think?]

Oh sh÷t! Editing a post on here! 🙈
We'll see how it goes!
Old & new. The big 'statement piece' pendant I sold today, was part of the collection I founded the business bank account on. After I'd been given an account, loan, overdraft & credit card I sat in my car & thought...'sh÷t..,I've just based all of that on 2 pieces of not very big slate I pinched out of a quarry!'... it was a scary moment! As I won't be able to 'caption individual photos'...the next is the 1st pair of earrings from *Penrhyn* I also sold today! I've never seen anything at Penrhyn that jumped out at me. My son tho, works at Zip World & has brought a few small bits back that he thought might be of use..They say Welsh Slate is the best in the world & working finely with the Penrhyn last week proves it! Penrhyn was known as the best quality, Dinorwic next, Blaenau, then Nantlle (though Pen yr Orsedd was/is very good too). The fineness & 'texture' of Penrhyn is exquisite. Even the 'sludge' left on the saw bed is fine & dries to a light, rather than medium grey as other slates do!Riven slate Cufflinks from Dorothea slate..& there's matching earrings [£95 a set, £30 earrings & £75 cufflinks individually]. Seahorses..possibly my favourite fish! These are bought in steel(?) castings (Chinese), but glazed with low temp glaze with the addition of mica powder . It's the same glaze I use for vacuum stabilising porous stone..eg 'broken' slate & rhyolitic tuff...[thinking aloud, this might work on P. Bluestone ..trial tomorrow!
There's a few green items which are Quarry Glyn Rhonwy at Llanberis.
Looking forward to be back Artisan Market on Sunday the 23rd & 30th!!

06/08/2026

Sadly, we won't be at Beaumaris Artisan Market for the next 2 Sundays as the market has been cancelled on those dates & the 6th of September due to circumstances beyond the markets control (it has been suggested due to an outbreak of plague, though this isn't quite true)!
Caernarfon on Saturday & Tuesdays as normal & we'll be at the Air Ambulance Fun Day at Caernarfon Airport on the 16th of August

To the Tryfan climber, with the star t shirt who bought a ring when I was packing at Beaumaris today, I'd recommend the Watkin Path as has (I believe), the best scenery which might doften yhe queue at the top!
All the best!

Technical post! (Now updated with comments)

People often ask,'How long does it take to make (various items)'. The reality is (hopefully!), not too long!
However, there's a lot of technology behind presenting a top quality, stable, strong & durable enough item to warrant the lifetime guarantee I offer with the products I make & sell.
I've recently been fabricating an adjustable 'fence' for accurately sawing slab & will also do finer work too.
Captions will be added to photos when the meta platform allows! 😖

Thanks for all the support over the last couple of days.
If 'daughter Jo' sees this, I was a bit mortified when I discovered I'd managed to give you a wrong box as I still have your Glyn Rhonwy earrings!
Please get in touch to arrange getting these to you!
