Move over, traditional white pearls—June has a dark, dramatic side. ✨

Did you know that the official June birthstone is the only gem in the world created by a living creature?

While classic cream pearls are beautiful, Tahitian pearls are redefining modern luxury for June birthdays.

Grown in the warm coastal lagoons of French Polynesia, these captivating treasures are produced by the black-lipped oyster (Pinctada margaritifera).

This unique origin gives them a naturally dark, iridescent body colour. They are completely untreated, boasting breathtaking overtones of peacock green, midnight blue, aubergine, and metallic silver - just gorgeous 😍

The ring featured here is a Tahitian pearl and diamond ring from our Corona Collection, where each piece is fully customisable according to stone preference.

Beyond the Signet: The Art of the Considered Choice

There is a distinct magic in working with people who look past the shop window.
Recently, I had the pleasure of designing a piece for a valued customer and friend, who deeply appreciates the journey of creation. Far from looking for a quick purchase or a mass-produced trend, our customer came to us wanting jewellery with soul - something truly unique, deeply considered, and intentionally crafted.

The original design brief was to commission a piece of jewellery featuring a magnificent Star Ruby that she had sourced during her travels in Vietnam. She also wanted her family crest to feature in the design, and knew that she wanted an alternative to the traditional signet ring, but she wasn't sure what form it should take.

The collaborative process that followed led us to design a sophisticated solid gold seal engraved pendant, featuring the ruby as the centrepiece and complimented by an inherited old mine-cut diamond in the bail. While the pendant sits flush against the skin, it can be unclipped and swivel 90 degrees to reveal the seal-engraved family crest on the reverse. In this open position part of the pendant acts as a handle, allowing it to easily stamp the seal into wax. Every single line, curve, and symbol etched into the gold carries a piece of heritage—a wearable piece of history that can be carried with the wearer always.

It has been a pleasure and a joy to work on such a special project. Bringing life to someone's vision is something that I will never tire of, and a privilege that is never taken for granted.

Those born in May are blessed with the gorgeous green emerald as their birthstone. With its distinct appearance and vibrant green hue, the emerald has long symbolised renewal and growth - qualities that align perfectly with the spirit of spring 🌱

Two Generations - One Story

This sweet mother and daughter commission left the workshop today!

With her daughter Hannah’s wedding approaching, Cyra wanted to repurpose some much loved, sentimental jewellery into a legacy gift for her daughter, as well as a reimagined engagement ring for herself, as her original engagement and wedding rings had become too fragile to wear.

We started by exploring Hannah’s personal style and what Cyra wanted to signify with this commission. The result was this very sweet, double cluster ring.

We melted down the gold from Cyra’s rings to use in the settings, which contain rubies, a rose cut diamond and emerald from the original rings. Due to the age and wear-and-tear of the antique seed pearls, we were unable to use these so instead sourced a new set to match closely with those of the original ones. The setting is secured within a new, platinum shank, which is better suited to Hannah’s taste and style.

For Cyra, we modernised the design of the ruby and diamond setting and restored her yellow gold wedding band, which now forms the shank of her reimagined engagement ring, allowing us to keep the balance of maintaining sentimentality but allowing the emergence of something new!

These types of commissions bring us such joy. To be able to create two pieces of jewellery from the same source represents a shared history and a continued connection between mother and daughter, and we hope these legacy pieces will be enjoyed by both Cyra and Hannah, and perhaps even other generations, for a long time to come.

Our beautiful boy Henry is 12 today! Henry is not just family, but a valued member of the Jesper Velling Jewellery team; acting as a very reliable doorbell to let us know when people arrive, making sure the workshop is kept s***k and span (well, at least clear of biscuit crumbs) as well as providing a great cuddle and footwarming service. Extra goodies for this boy today!

Today the jewellery industry celebrates 💎 A day designed not for polished campaigns or controlled messaging, but a collective moment where the industry - and its audience - contribute to the narrative and celebrate natural diamonds through storytelling. And what a fascinating story natural diamonds have to tell!

Formed over billions of years, they carry the weight of real stories, real moments, and life’s most meaningful milestones, often moving through a family’s story. Given as a celebration of love, held onto through hard times, and passed down through generations, every story is unique, and in our 25 years of making bespoke jewellery, we have been so very fortunate to have been part of these stories ❤️

World Diamond Day is also a reminder that brilliance must be backed by integrity. It is important to reflect not only on the beauty of natural diamonds, but on the broader impact they create across the global value chain. As an industry, our responsibility goes beyond delivering exceptional jewellery. It lies in upholding transparency, ethical practices, and long-term sustainability at every stage.
We have seen tastes change and curiosity growing over the years. While the round brilliant stands strong, many people are opening up to shapes that feel more individual to them. From marquise to pear, cushion to antique cuts, there’s a growing appreciation for shapes that feel more expressive and personal.

So, what is your ?

We never take for granted what an honour it is to be trusted with peoples beloved jewellery, so when Jordan came to us wanting her existing engagement and wedding rings redesigned and remodelled to better suit her style and taste, we were delighted to be given the opportunity to create this set for her.
