Bringing this back for the heatwave. Summer + Jewellery. Before you panic and get a whole new “waterproof” stainless steel jewellery collection - let’s care for the jewellery you’ve already got this summer.
Tag a friend who needs to see this - so I didn’t get water thrown over me for no reason.
Now I’m lazy when it comes to looking after my jewellery but also prefer it to be made of high quality precious metals. Which is I make sure we use recycled silver and gold vermeil.
☀️ Vermeil has a solid silver base and then 2.5 microns of gold plating, which is 5 times thicker than the gold plate you see in other brands. If it doesn’t say vermeil, it’s not that thick and is going to tarnish much quicker.
So this thickness plating gives us a lot more leeway when it comes to chemicals, sweat and everything else breaking down the gold. This means a few swims this summer, exercise and suncream shouldn’t really damage it and I replate your pieces for free anyway.
BUT just we care for our clothes, there’s some simple ways to care for your jewellery.
🏊Swimming - Water can dull some of the jewellery, but it is the chemicals that are the big issue. Chlorinated pools can start to break down jewellery and hot tubs are the worst offenders.
🧴Suncream - Get all your creams, lotions and perfumes on first, then accessorise. You don’t want sticky cream lying onto off all your nice jewellery - you want it to gleam in the sum.
💆♀️Aftercare - While you are taking off your face and getting ready to settle down for the night, take your jewellery off and pop it in warm, soapy water for a few minutes and clean it with a soft toothbrush, pat dry and you’re good to go.
