Glow stick party 🎈

Today in Penguin’s we have been celebrating our lady Carmel’s 18th birthday, where we decided to throw her a glow stick party, which also lead on from the children’s interest in the glow sticks at the moment too. We had a blast waving the glow sticks around, playing with the balloons, dancing and trying on all the different birthday props too!

Ducklings🐥

Let’s go bowling….🎳 🤍✨

Today in Ducklings we have been super busy bowling using the metallic balls and reels. We used pipes and wooden planks and even the wobble board to roll the balls over. The interest of this activity came from Child LL and BT recent discovery of rolling back and forth with Angel and Amanda yesterday🎳🤍✨

INTENT🎳
Our aim was to encourage curiosity, problem solving and early physical development through open-ended exploration. We wanted the children to investigate movement, speed and direction while developing their confidence and coordination.🎳

IMPLEMENTATION🤍
The children were invited to roll metal balls down pipes, along wooden planks and across the wobble board, experimenting with different heights, angles and surfaces. The metallic reels along the pipes created exciting sounds and movements that captured the children’s attention and encouraged repeated exploration. The ladies supported the activity through using language such as “fast,” “slow,” “roll” and “bounce,” while allowing the children to lead their own play and discoveries.🤍

IMPACT✨
The children showed great engagement and concentration throughout the activity. They developed their hand-eye coordination, balance and fine motor skills The children demonstrated curiosity, excitement and perseverance as they tested different ways to move the balls and watched where they would travel next.✨

Fruit Skewer’s 🍌🍊🍓🍇🥝🍍

What is your favourite fruit?… 🍌or 🍓

Today in Penguin’s we have been making some yummy snacks to enjoy with each other in the lovely sunny weather. We decided we would make some fruits skewers today leading on from out conversation yesterday about healthy eating and the different fruits we like to eat. So we decided we would make these to develop our life skills when learning to chop the fruits whilst also allowing us to enjoy a healthy snack together. The children firstly washed their hands where we spoke about hygiene when making food. Before listening to the ladies talk about how to safely use the knife and how to cut the fruits easily too. Throughout we spoke about the fruits we liked and even counted the different fruits we were placing on our skewer too. The children then went on to come and sit down together where we all sat and enjoyed our yummy snack together, which also allowed us to talk about our food and why this is healthy for us too.

The INENT of this activity was to allow the children to develop their life skills, whilst also learning about healthy eating and the importance of this. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of different fruits for us to use to make our skewer’s with, as well as starting conversations about healthy eating too. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to develop their knowledge of healthy eating, allow them to develop their life skills too.

All in all the children had a busy morning making some yummy snacks, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Owls 🦉

Let’s make a school for the Gruffalo.. 🪚 🔨

Following child SS’s recent interest in creating schools in the construction area and lots of talk sound the topic of school within the room today we chose to provide the children with the opportunity to get creative and build a school together for the Gruffalo and his friends.

The children were provided with a range of different building resources to role play along with blocks and crates to use to build with.

The level of teamwork shown by the children in the group was incredible, children shared resources, looked at each other for ideas and supported each others ideas throughout their play.

You could hear the conversation among them explaining to each other what they were doing, how they were using certain things and what they needed too.

This activity supported the children’s development across many different areas, such as their physical development, personal social and emotional development and mathematical / problem solving development too.

Frozen Paint❄️🎨🌺

Today in Ducklings the children explored frozen paint mark making! We froze bright coloured paint overnight and encouraged the children to explore the icy textures, colours and movements as the paint melted across the paper. ❄️🎨🌺

Intent❄️
The aim of this activity was to provide children with a rich sensory experience that encourages curiosity, creativity and early mark making skills. The activity also supported fine motor development, hand-eye coordination and language as the ladies used words such as “cold”, “slippery” and “melting”.❄️

Implementation🎨
The ladies prepared paint in advance and froze it overnight using chunky grips for little hands to hold safely. Babies were given large sheets of paper and encouraged to explore freely, making marks, mixing colours and feeling the changing textures as the ice melted. Amanda supported our smallest children by helping them grip the ice and introducing the ice by touching their hands and feet.🎨

Impact🌺
The children were fully engaged and showed great curiosity as they explored the frozen paint. They developed confidence in making marks, strengthened their grasping skills and enjoyed the sensory experience of the cold paint melting in their hands.🌺

Frozen Animal Rescue Activity🧊🐄🐖

Today in Ducklings we have been exploring the animals with following on from our friends interest, but oh no somethings happened whilst our animals were trying to cool, off in the sun… can you help?🧊🐄🐖

Intent🧊
With the summer heat upon us, we created a fun sensory activity to help keep the babies cool while encouraging curiosity, fine motor skills, and problem-solving through play. The intent of this activity came from Child BT and AM interest in animals recently, whilst also adapting to the environment around and putting the care of our children first.🧊

Implementation🐄
We froze toy animals in blocks of ice and gave the children knives, forks, and spoons to explore different ways of rescuing the animals from the ice. We also frozen some flower petals to look at in the ice. The children loved scraping, tapping, and digging as the ice slowly melted.🐄

Impact🐖
The activity kept the children cool and engaged while supporting hand-eye coordination, concentration, and sensory exploration. There were lots of smiles, excitement, and conversations about the animals as they discovered them hidden inside the ice. We also smelt the flowers, they smelled beautiful. A perfect way to combine learning and fun during the warm weather!🐖

This activity has led on from some children getting new siblings and the children’s interest in the baby dolls. Throughout we played with peach, fed her, changed her nappy, gave her cuddles and even read her some story books too! We have even super busy looking after her today!

Please give a huge welcome to 💛 Mother Goose Day Nursery 💛

We are incredibly grateful for their support and are so proud to have such a passionate and inspiring nursery supporting our awards for 2027.

Water Play & Nature Exploration💦🌸🌿

Today in Ducklings we have been exploring water to help us cool down in the high temperatures of summer. We used a mixture different metal crockery and flower petal to allow the children to fill and empty.💦🌸🌿

Intent💦
Today’s activity was designed to encourage sensory exploration, teamwork, problem-solving and imaginative play through water investigation. By introducing metal pots and pans for transporting, filling and emptying water, alongside beautiful flower petals and natural materials, we aimed to create a calming and engaging experience that connected children with nature.💦

Implementation🌸
The children explored the water area using a variety of metal pots, pans and containers to scoop, carry, pour and empty water in different ways. Flower petals and natural resources were added to create texture, colour and curiosity within the activity, encouraging the children to engage their senses and develop creativity through open-ended play. The sounds of the metal containers, movement of the water and delicate flowers created a rich sensory experience full of discovery and excitement.🌸

Impact🌿
The children explored the feel and movement of the water through splashing, pouring and touching the different textures. They were curious and engaged as they watched the water move between the pots and pans and explored the soft flower petals with their hands.🌿
