OVERFLOW BRITANNIA
(Brando SD X FS Don’t Worry)

Bay British Sport Pony filly born 29.05.2026

Although she is primarily dressage bred, I do not want to rule her out for jumping and eventing as she has multiple relatives that have competed successfully at high level in all three disciplines (read below!), and her sire is very scopey.

Sire is 148cm, dam approx 144cm. With no horse blood in the last four generations, she is not expected to exceed pony height.

So far this filly has a very friendly, curious temperament and is a quick learner.

Sire: Brando SD

Brando SD is an FEI dressage pony competing successfully up to Medium level with and has accumulated 222 BD points so far. He is training at Advanced Medium at home, and is expected to continue progressing through the levels.
He is one of the very few direct UK offspring of the legendary Hilkens Black Delight.

Paternal Grandsire: Hilkens Black Delight
* 2005 Weser-Ems Licensing Champion
* First pony ever invited to the Oldenburg Stallion Parade, described as "as close to perfect as possible"
* 2007 Berlin National Stallion Show Reserve Champion
* 2007 Oldenburg/Weser-Ems 4-Year-Old Champion
* Winner of his 30-Day Performance Test (8.71 overall, scoring a perfect 10 from the guest rider)
* 2009 Weser-Ems Champion Stallion (6 to 9 years)
* Placed 3rd overall in 2009 at Bundeschampionate

* Overflow Dasher’s Delight: Successful FEI dressage pony in Australia, (also bred by us)
* Black Pearl SH: Competed twice at the European Pony Championships in Jumping, finishing 8th individually, and up to 2* in Eventing
* Comete M'Aurea: FEI jumping pony competing up to 1.30m
* Barolo 50: High-level dressage pony
* Bieni Bo HE WE: 4yo Bundeschampion winner
* Big Light WE: 4th place at the Bundeschampionat for 4yo stallions

He has also had success as a dam's sire through:
* Glückskind WE: Competed at the 2025 European Pony Championships in dressage
* Don Bellini: Sold for a top price of €40,000 at just 2.5 years old

Brando's dam, the STER awarded Mirage, has also produced multiple other successful ponies, including Adonis, who has competed up to Inter I level in America.

Mirage is by Voyager, a Bundeschampionships participant with wins in jumping and dressage up to Level L.

Mirage is a maternal half-sibling to FEI dressage pony Boss Bunter R, Boss Junior, several licensed stallions, and Bundeschampions Moonlight Lady and Claire de Lune. Her dam, St. Pr. Moonlight, was sired by Night-Star I, a Licensing and Performance Test winner and Reserve Bundeschampion jumping pony.

Dam’s Sire: FS Don’t Worry
Widely regarded as the most successful dressage pony sire of all time.
• Bundeschampionate Winner in 1998 & 1999
•PSG and FEI Pony level winner
•Sire of more than 75 approved sons and 13 European Pony Championship participants

Dam’s dam: Steinsinfonie
Rooks Rhythm’s dam, Steinsinfonie, is by King Royal, who traces back to the famous Kaiserjäger xx line. This line is renowned for producing top FEI ponies such as Kennedy WE, Kaiserheld, Kaiserwalzer, and Kronprinz.
King Royal is a paternal half-sibling to FEI Jumping ponies Keep Smiling 26 and Sally King, and FEI Event Pony Koban 2.
He is also the sire of the successful jumping pony King 328.
Steinsinfonie’s damline has also produced the high level dressage ponies such as Krazy King, Steinmarie and Onka.

A little colour genetics observation about Overflow Britannia..

Overflow Britannia’s base colour is bay, but I strongly suspect she may also carry the non-dun 1 (ND1) allele. This is often confused with dun, but they are not quite the same . True dun causes body dilution as well as primitive markings, whereas ND1 can produce some primitive markings (usually not as strong) without the characteristic body dilution.

I’ve suspected for some time that Rhythm (Brittania’s dam) may carry ND1 too. Interestingly, her sire, FS Don’t Worry, is actually a red dun, but as Rhythm has no body dilution and only a very faint dorsal stripe, I doubt she carries dun.

ND1 is fairly common in Connemaras. This is one reason why Connemaras with dorsal stripes are often mistakenly described as dun, when in reality many are simply displaying primitive markings associated with ND1 rather than carrying the dun allele itself.

One thing that makes ND1 particularly interesting is that the markings can be very subtle and are often seasonal. In Rhythm’s case, the faint dorsal stripe was most noticeable when she was shedding into her summer coat in early spring, whereas during other times of year it is difficult to see at all.

Primitive markings are often most obvious in newborn foals, which may explain why this filly’s dorsal stripe is currently so striking. As she matures, it may fade or become much less noticeable, but for now it is a really fascinating feature and another reminder that colour genetics are often more complex than they first appear!

Of course, without genetic testing this is only speculation, but it is certainly an interesting possibility

Sadly, our first four mares of the season have all scanned empty.

One mare (Hettie), as mentioned in her sales post, didn’t have ideal timing and was inseminated too early. However, the other three all had good timing, good semen, and everything was textbook, so it’s pretty frustrating not to have at least one in foal. Poor conception rates are unfortunately not uncommon here, and sadly something I’ve become very accustomed to.

At this point, I know some people are probably thinking we must be doing something wrong, but we’ve had the same low conception rates with three different highly regarded equine repro vets, as well as when inseminating ourselves.

On a more positive note, yesterday I inseminated our homebred Overflow Dancing Queen, aka Queenie, for the first time. It’s quite a surreal full circle moment, having inseminated her mother and now inseminating her. Once again, the timing was perfect and the semen quality was excellent, so the odds are certainly in our favour.

Queenie was bred to Ushuaia Eliza Modesty, owned by Eire Fhearghais. He’s a very exciting stallion, having competed up to 1.30m level in FEI pony showjumping classes while also competing in FEI pony dressage. Queenie herself is also bred as an allrounder, with her sire, SF Detroit, having also competed at FEI level in two disciplines, eventing and dressage.

Overall, it could be a very exciting allrounder foal. But with our luck so far this season, I’m definitely not getting my hopes up!

This picture popped up on my memories and did make me sad. Two broodmares that I absolutely wish I could have kept. On the left is My Lady III aka Stella, a former FEI jumping pony - to date the most accomplished mare I’ve owned. On the right is right is Beecott Chardonnay aka Cindy, a direct daughter of the famous FS Champion de Luxe, who there are so few direct offspring of in the UK. Sadly I really struggled to get either of these mares infoal, and spent thousands in the process!
