Looking to build confidence on two wheels or develop your cycling skills?

We’ve got a range of Bikeability courses available for all ages and abilities:

✅ Bikeability Level 1

✅ Bikeability Level 1 & 2

✅ Bikeability Level 3

✅ Learn to Ride courses

✅ New! Child Bike Workshop & Learn

Whether you’re just starting out or ready to take your cycling confidence to the next level, there’s something for everyone.

We will spend a maximum of 30-minutes per bike, and will signpost to a ‘bike shop’ if repairs required exceed this time.

We’re hiring: Sustainable Travel Planning Officer- Active Travel Team 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Join Essex County Council and help drive our vision for a Safer, Greener, and Healthier Essex. You’ll develop and deliver Travel Planning initiatives that encourage sustainable travel across schools, businesses, and new developments.

You’ll work collaboratively with a wide range of partners to design, implement, and monitor Travel Plans that support real modal shift across the county. From shaping strategy to delivering impactful projects, you’ll play a key role in promoting active travel and reducing our carbon footprint.

Ideal for a confident and passionate professional with strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and project delivery skills, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting difference in communities across Essex.

Today is Living Streets , supporting safer streets for women, girls and minority genders. 🚶‍♀️👣

Take part by walking for 20 minutes from your home or workplace, or join others in your area. Everyone who participates will be entered into a prize draw to win £250 in shopping vouchers.

Walking has proven benefits. For women, it can reduce the risk of breast cancer, strengthen pelvic floor muscles and support recovery after illness or childbirth.

More broadly, people who walk regularly report improved wellbeing, lower anxiety and a stronger sense of community. From an business perspective, research also shows that people who walk or wheel to local shops tend to spend more than those who drive.

This is an fantastic opportunity to recognise the schools, local authorities, families and individuals who are helping more children and young people build confidence through cycling.

Bikeability plays a vital role in supporting active travel across England, giving young people the skills and confidence to make cycling part of their everyday journeys to school and beyond.

Categories include:

🏆Organisation of the Year

If you know a school, local authority, or individual making a real difference through Bikeability or cycling more broadly, this is your chance to celebrate them.

🚶‍♀️ Safer Streets = More People Walking

Walking is one of the simplest forms of travel but it only works when people feel safe and confident in their surroundings

That’s why new government-backed guidance and training from Active Travel England is so important. It will support councils to revamp streets with the safety of women and girls in mind, helping create more inclusive, welcoming environments for everyone.

When streets are designed with safety at their core, more people choose to walk for everyday journeys, to access local services, and to stay active.

This initiative is a vital step towards delivering the Government’s Safer Streets mission and its ambition to halve violence against women and girls within the next decade.

Transport Focus, the independent watchdog for bus users, is working with Ipsos to gather passenger feedback across Essex.
Between 7 April 2026 and 31 March 2027, interviewers will be speaking to passengers at bus stops and on board buses on selected days.

The short survey can be completed online via a link or QR code, or on paper if needed.
