Following today’s gold buying event in Chepstow Drill Hall. Organised by the town which was done in error. A valuation was obtained on two 9ct gold chains weighing approximately 170g and 160g.
The offer made was £8,250 in total.
The scrap value of the gold was approximately £12,500.
This highlights why many local businesses have been so concerned about these pop-up buying events.
Independent businesses invest in the town year-round, pay rent, employ local people, support local charities and contribute to the community. Temporary operators can arrive for a single day, buy from local residents and then leave again.
At a time when Chepstow’s high street is already facing significant challenges, many local traders feel that established businesses should be supported, not placed at a disadvantage by events such as these.
The figures speak for themselves.
