Coming up on Monday 19th October...

Aberdeenshire folksinger, Iona Fyfe, has become one of Scotland’s finest singers, rooted deeply in the singing traditions of the Northeast of Scotland. In 2021, she became the first singer to win the coveted title of Musician of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. Iona is a fierce advocate for the official recognition of the Scots Language, leading a successful campaign to pressure Spotify into recognising Scots and adding it to its list of languages. Honoured at the Scots Language Awards with the title of Speaker of the Year in 2021, Iona performs both folk and pop songs in the Scots language, remaining true to her rooting in tradition. Iona studied at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and graduated with a first-class honours degree in Traditional Music and holds an FLCM from London College of Music. A finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year in 2021, Iona has achieved sell-out shows at Edinburgh Fringe Festival for three consecutive years. So, on Monday 19 October, you can come along and see her performing at The Glenfarg Folk Club.

One of the original club members, Sandy Watt was a well loved stalwart of the Glenfarg Folk Club. He sang many different styles of song, but the emphasis was always on entertaining his audience. The club has held an annual competition in his memory since 1981 with the quaich being awarded to the performer the members vote to have been their favourite of the evening.
This always proves to be a highly enjoyable event, and the competition is open to anybody, so come along and enter, or simply sit back and enjoy.

Coming up on Monday 28 September the club is delighted to welcome Australian duo We Mavericks. Masters in the art of connection, songstress Victoria Vigenser commands with powerhouse vocals and driving guitar, while violin and mandolin virtuoso Lindsay Martin draws astonishing colour from every phrase.
