Here at Artisan, we are often asked do we do rhodium plating for white gold jewellery. The answer is yes, we do.

The plating is undertaken at our workshop by professional goldsmiths and turnaround time is generally one to two weeks.

Getting your treasured white gold jewellery plated offers several benefits:-

1. Offers a bright, icy-white, highly reflective finish.

2. Restores tarnish and scratch resistance.

3. Offers a hypoallergenic coating.

Signs to look out for which indicate that you should consider rhodium plating are, a yellowish tint showing on the item, a general dullness, visible scratches or an uneven colour.

The lifespan of rhodium plating can typically range from 6 months to 3 years, dependent on wear frequency. Handwashing, friction with other rings, lotions and natural skin oils all accelerate wear.

We generally charge £40 per item for rhodium plating, which we believe is competitive compared with other jewellers.

So, if you feel your lovely white gold pieces need to be rejuvenated, please pop by and we will get them restored to there former glory.

Here at Artisan, one of my main stockists happens to be my wife, Louise.

Louise has been designing jewellery, since graduating with a degree in textile design. She started her business Eclectic Shock in 2002 and has been creating ever since.

She specialises in unique, bold statement pieces which are often one-off designs. The designs can contain vintage, antique or modern jewellery items which are married together to create truly impactful results.

You can find a great selection of her work in Artisan and somehow she managed to secure the first cabinet as you come through the door. 😲

Here at Artisan, Dalkeith, two of the services we are proud to offer is ring stone replacement and resetting of loose stones.

For stone replacement, our goldsmiths will work in conjunction with the gemologist to find a suitable stone, and return the ring to it's former glory.

Resetting a loose stone is more straightforward and will usually just involve replacing or retipping claws.

It is always unfortunate to lose a stone, but there some preventative techniques.

1. It is recommended that for daily wear, a ring should be checked annually by a professional jeweller. For rings worn occasionally, every one to two years is generally sufficient.

2. Self monitoring - you can gently tap the ring or lightly nudge the ring with something like tweezers, in order to check for rattling.

3. If claws are catching on fabric or clothes, this is a sign that a repair may be required.

It is also worth noting that, if a ring is insured, then it will assist with any claims if the ring has been professionally checked and repaired when necessary.

Here at Artisan we offer a wide range of watch repair services. Battery replacement starts from £6 and can generally be done there and then. Strap replacement starts from £15 and again can be fitted while you wait.

Watch link bracelet shortening or extending is £10 and we can also do this in house with a same day turnaround time.

For more complex repairs such as glass or winder replacement or watch servicing, we use an experienced watch maker and turnaround time is usually one to two weeks. ⌚️
