It’s some times tricky to arrange stones do that they look natural and accidental but I think this arrangement might work.
The star was a little fiddly but my fingers survived.

The little star cut out and filed up, now to bevel those spiky bits! Without stabbing my delicate fingertips 😥

Friday goldsmithing bench tip time, part 2 🤓This is a jeweller’s or watchmaker’s, hand vice. They used to be pretty ubiquitous on work benches in the trade but seem to have fallen out of favour in recent decades. I rely on and advise using vintage models as they’re simply nicer to hold and we’re made with a decent amount of care… unlike most modern junk tools.Where they really come into their own is in securing fiddly little bits like this, keeping the work piece absolutely steady is essential when trying to shape the metal very precisely.

Friday goldsmithing bench tip time!
When filing up complex little components it’s always hugely helpful to have one safety edge on your needle files. This allow you to get into tight corners while minimising the risk of accidentally cutting into the adjacent edge to the one you’re focussed on.

This is the moon to accompany the little star, this one’s 30mm long. It’ll have some wavy bands of texture added as well as a scattering of sapphires. It’s a special commission project for a very lovely lady.

If you search my YouTube channel, Ford Hallam’s Japanese metalwork channel, you’ll find a film Bella and I made some time ago about how to accurately mark out on metal using a steel rule, a set square, a pair of dividers and a fine scriber. This skill is, to my mind, fundamental to a professional goldsmith and this little component illustrates why very well I think.
This little star is 15mm long and will feature bevelled edges and will have to twinkle properly. It’s 18ct yellow gold.
