Here is a lovely woodstone fossil I've prepared for Kameran .fossilist

Each woodstone is so different — this one has long white calcite crystals emanating from a section of monkey puzzle wood at its center. It's surrounded mostly by Promicroceras and Cymbites ammonites, though there is a small section of Xiphoceras as well.

An 8 inch fossilised Cenoceras striatum Nautilus in a green ammonite nodule. This species has a sealed umbilicus (centre) and it's name striatum is derived from the surface texture of the shell. Unlike ammonites Nautilus are still alive today and can be seen swimming in the tropical seas of the Indo-Pacific region. I found this specimen on Charmouth beach near Stonebarrow and it is 190 million years old.

Arnioceras bearing rocks are seldom preparable due to their preservation, but occasionally you can find one where nature has done a good job of keeping them intact. This specimen has both Micro and Macroconch individuals suggesting that the environment may have been a mating ground before they came to rest on the sea floor.

Found near Lyme Regis the largest Ammonite measures 6cm across.

Stonebarrow Fossils and I Natural Selection Fossils worked together to produce this eye catching fossil. This Ammonite bed is preserved on a sheet of calcite, consisting of Xiphoceras, Asteroceras, Promicroceras and Cymbites species. Sometimes nature helps prepare the fossil for you, allowing for a translucent display piece to be revealed. Each walled cell is a chamber from within a 195 million year old Stellare nodule. These nodules naturally compartmentalise during the preservation process, allowing for the rock to be removed revealing the Ammonites within.

Many will be familiar with the beautiful flattened iridescent Caloceras ammonites from Somerset, however they can also be found preserved in 3D. They are much rarer from Lyme Regis and are preserved in a similar way to Vermiceras with yellow calcite infill.

Possibly not a Metophioceras ammonite, which was my first instinct when I found this ammonite on the beach. Having prepared it, I think it's Coroniceras Hyatti (Thanks Byron Blessed for the ID) A different species that shares some of the characteristics of the Meto. Part of what makes fossil hunting fun is discerning the subtle differences between fossils. An open or closed centre, shape and curvature of the ribbing and the profile of the keel are all important parts of the classification process. I'm by far not an expert when it comes to identifying ammonites so if you think it's a different species let me know in the comments.

This specimen measures 14.5cm across and is from the Jurassic of Lyme Regis in Dorset.

Sat a top its rocky Acropolis, an ancient relic of the past. A brown calcite filled Asteroceras obtusum ammonite measuring just over 4 inches (10.5 cm) accompanied by a couple of Promicroceras ammonites. It is from the Jurassic period and was found on Charmouth beach near stone barrow.

Ra, Helios, Surya, Amaterasu, Tonatiuh, Inti, Sol Invictus are all sun gods from different cultures throughout history. It's possible that a culture may have adopted the Microderoceras ammonite as a symbol of worship had they discovered one. With the double row of compact spikes and the ammonite suspended within it's rocky nodule surround it reminds me of the sun appearing in the sky. This fossil can be illuminated from behind exposing the translucency of the calcite ammonite.

This specimen measures 7.5cm across and was found on Charmouth beach near Stonebarrow. It is from the Jurassic period and is approximately 195myo.
