…I think this is our why 🥺

Last year someone said to me ‘that looks like bindweed in beside the poinsettia’ - and I think they were right.

I liked the fact that something just showed up and sprouted. Now I know it was the silent killer, strangling and stealing from the magnificent poinsettia.

It’s a sad reality that I think it’s time to accept that its fate has been sealed and it may be time for the garden waste bin.

✨Denise✨

Denise first walked into SH in August 2016 (we know this from the picture of Ruby in this reel from her camera roll!) - falling in love with Ruby and the beautiful jewellery. Despite predominately based in Aberdeen Denise visited often. I remember that Christmas joking to Denise that I had got Ruby an advent calendar but not one for myself. She came back later that day with the most elaborate and decadent advent calendar id ever seen as a gift for me. I was blown away.

Over the years Denise has bought some stunning pieces but when I launched Preloved I realised just how many she had from a variety of makers. Stream lining her collection meant some amazing pieces have become available for others to own and enjoy.

It also brought Denise and I closer, Preloved has changed a dynamic that I really love. With some of the money she earned Denise asked me to source new pieces for her at - getting some amazing and pieces.

Last year a penny dropped and I said to Denise - come with me! So in October 2025 we travelled to London for 3 days and enjoyed the Fair together. We chatted non stop and had such a lovely few days.

As well as having a great taste in jewellery Denise also has a love for Gucci and has invited me to some great events where I’ve met other lovely women like - a love of handbags is a new education for me.

It was the community that I saw evident in Gucci clients that gave me the idea for our 15th Birthday event. Bringing people together to share their love of jewellery was born from an evening at the Scotsman cinema.

Denise is always caring, thoughtful, kind and the most empathetic person you will ever meet (and a dog lover!). Yesterday we enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea to celebrate her mum turning 80 in a few weeks.

The question is. Will she be coming to Goldsmiths again this year? 😉✨

✨Sheila✨

Who remembers all the posts of me wearing endless pieces from to promote our biannual Pop-Up Shop?

Sheila wandered into SH Jewellery during our very first year of opening. I immediately noticed her beautiful jacket and bag and complimented her on them. She then told me about how her business partner, Moira, made them, and that they had a pop-up shop coming up soon in Stockbridge.

So off I went to try on these beautiful pieces — and I ended up commissioning a gorgeous jacket for my 30th birthday. We instantly hit it off, and soon decided to host a pop-up shop in my gallery space that autumn. That was the beginning of our Pop-Up Shops! Every spring and autumn, Sheila arrived with two rails full of stunning handmade pieces, and we had so much fun trying everything on. I loved the different experience of selling handmade garments alongside jewellery.

We continued our pop-up shops right up until 2019. Then, after Covid, life changed in lots of ways and we never quite returned to them in the same way. Luckily though, Sheila happens to live in the same town as me, so Harris and I still pop over to see her and Spot the dog every now and then. Sheila also still pops into Morningside and now buys and sells through the Preloved page ✨

It’s crazy to realise how many years we’ve spent catching up on life over jewellery and handmade clothing. Thank you, Sheila, for being such a big part of my SH journey! 🫶🏻

Today I had the absolute pleasure of meeting - an iconic and inspiring figure in Scottish jewellery design. At 80 years old, Sheila continues to champion craft, creativity and community with such passion and energy. We met at her beautiful showroom on Hanover Street, drinking tea and coffee in Orkney chairs.

We spent time talking about jewellery, Scottish gold, the future of the trade in Scotland, and the importance of supporting and celebrating makers across this incredible country. It was also a joy to share our plans for Alchemy; Goldsmiths Scotland and discuss the opportunities ahead for Scottish craftsmanship.

What stayed with me most was the reminder that we learn so much from those who have dedicated their lives to excellence in craft — the people who inspire makers to keep striving, creating and evolving.

Scotland’s jewellery community is something truly special, and conversations like this make me incredibly proud to be part of it.

✨Trade Dinner✨

What a fun night last night in London at the Goldsmiths Hall. The trade dinner is a highlight in the social calendar and lets members of the company come together to celebrate the trade that we are all so lucky to be a part off.

From the candlelit chandeliers to the silver candelabra it really is a magical evening. As I think these pictures show it was such a fun evening with some of the best people. I was there with my hat on. There is so much energy and positivity for this new project and we can’t wait to share more about it in the coming weeks and months.

I have the best clients - FACT!

Sandra and I connected through - sending me pieces for resale and buying new pieces with her proceeds too. It wasn’t long before her daughter was following and treating herself too.

Sandra sent me the most amazing badger for Harris last year, the detail was insane - ALL hand made by herself. Boots with buckles, a grandad shirt with perfect little buttons, dungarees and a waistcoat with a little dog ‘brooch’ - it was BEAUTIFUL ✨

Then followed beautifully hand stitched pirate bunting, and little pirate finger puppets to name a few. It was only when she sent the most perfect little coat with toggle buttons as an ‘add on’ for Badger Bill that a thought occurred to me.

Harris has been asking for a ‘little Jack’ - the monkey in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie which has a full little ‘pirate’ outfit. So I asked Sandra if she could make one for him. She surpassed my expectations. It came complete with a leather bag, a belt with mother of pearl buckle and a sparkly brooch which Harris quickly claimed for himself.

Harris loved him! Taking him to bed each night. When I asked him the next morning why he had he taken off ‘little Jacks’ belt and waistcoat he said - he wanted him to be comfy when he slept.

Today another parcel arrived! This time, little dressing gowns and sleeping bags for Little Jack & Badger Bill. One with a little magnifying glass in its pocket and the other with a special ‘coin’ button.

As my husband says, ‘actually incredible, he thinks this is just normal’ - and for little Captain Jack it is. A creative community who share his love and passion for creativity and imagination and I couldn’t love the wonder more. The kindness and generosity is just so lovely.

Thank you Sandra and for everyone else who has taken the magic and made this dream possible for this little pirate! One day I hope we can meet 🫶🏻🏴‍☠️

Another lovely person to share our celebrations was Moyra. What is so amazing is the necklace she is wearing here is the first thing I ever sold in SH Jewellery on the 4th May 2011, a piece I made myself and even better she wore it to our party without even being asked or thinking. Showing that 15 years later it is still much loved.

Moyra was a client of mine from before I opened the gallery in Morningside. She found my work through a lovely little gallery in North Berwick called Cone 9, run by Malcolm Appleby’s niece - Ruth.

Moyra wanted a special necklace made for her daughters wedding and Ruth put us in touch. I remember meeting her in my local pub to discuss designs over a coffee. Yet here we are probably more than 20 years on.

Moyra has bought some amazing pieces over the years, from gifts for herself, her children and grandchildren. Often popping in with a little tray bake for me from a near by cafe or cake shop. Always caring and compassionate. Someone who has shown real support of me, my business and life beyond. Always asking after my family and reaching out in hard times.

Small businesses are a huge part of our local high streets and it’s people like you that make them ❤️

✨Girls that jewel together stick together! ✨

I remember being told that I’d make friends for life at art school and here are some of those friends! The jewellery girls 🤩

Far left - Hannah was actually an artist in residence when I was in first year at - she taught me one of my first projects. I remember I made a wooden bird box, complete with nest and bird inspired jewellery with removable, wearable silver bugs.

When I was a maker Hannah and I exhibited together - from a trip to in Munich to the BCTF in Harrogate: we have shared the highs and lows of being makers. Since my first opening in 2011 Hannah has exhibited with me in Morningside. Now I act as her agent in Edinburgh, stocking a full range of her silver coast rings for people to try and order in all metal varieties available.

, and have all exhibited with me in the past. Both were in the year (or two?) above me at college. exhibits with me in store now and her enamel jewellery with Orkney pebbles is always much admired.

Next to me is Sally, who many of you will recognise from the - Sally studied jewellery in the year below me. Together we have travelled the globe, Australia and Mexico to name but two.

Being self employed and working alone means you need your team to be wide and supportive and this dream team are always on hand to talk jewellery, pets and all the things in between! ✨💎

Although how it’s been over 20 years since I graduated I do not know!
