Over time, the claws on your rings will naturally wear down because your hands are often bumped and come into contact with surfaces. This can compromise the safety of your stones. If you notice it in time, jewellers can perform a service called retipping. This involves building the claws back up with additional metal to give them the strength needed to keep your stone held tight. Here are some ways you can check whether your ring may need to be looked at by a jeweller:

- Do the claws look flat from the side?
- If you run your finger over the stone, is the surface smooth, or can you feel defined claws?
- Look top down at your ring; do the claws overlap the stone? Or are they no longer reaching over to secure the stone?

If you're at all unsure, pop into our workshop, and we can assess your ring to ensure the setting is strong and fit for daily wear.
