Too early to mention Christmas? Asking for a diamond. 💎🎄

I know, I know. It’s only October. But hear me out…

If someone were to find a rather spectacular antique diamond ring under the Christmas tree, I very much doubt they’d complain about the early planning. 😉

And this one is particularly lovely. Antique French rose-cut diamonds, set in 18ct gold, with all the wonderfully romantic sparkle of old diamonds. Cut by hand in an era when candlelight was considered perfectly adequate illumination and diamonds were made to shimmer rather than shout.

A little history, a lot of sparkle and absolutely no batteries required.

A little bit of vintage gold, with strings attached 🎻✨

I do love a charm that takes the assignment seriously.

Not merely violin shaped - this one has tiny strings, a bridge, scroll and even the suggestion of little f-holes. All beautifully picked out in 9ct gold, because apparently even miniature violins deserve excellent detailing.

At 32mm long and a lovely 2.7g, it’s substantial enough to wear beautifully on its own, but would also be very good indeed amongst a slightly chaotic collection of charms.

No musical ability required. Frankly, probably safer that way (am typing this whilst 11 year old is practicing viola) 🎻

But if we’re doing classic gold knot earrings, I feel we should commit to the assignment ✊

These are a wonderfully chunky 17mm across, sit a glorious 11mm proud of the ear, and weigh a very respectable 4.5g. In other words: not the polite little knot studs your granny kept for Sundays. These have presence (admittedly a very 80s presence vintage is vintaging) 😌

Big enough to be noticed. Classic enough to wear with absolutely everything. And an excellent way of making jeans and a jumper look considerably more intentional. 😉

Edinburgh has emptied out, so naturally I’m bringing out the good stuff. 💙

The Festival crowds have gone, we can cross the road again, and there’s just enough autumn in the air to justify getting excited about sapphires. 🍂

And as September is sapphire month, this one seemed particularly well timed 💙

A beautifully simple vintage three-stone ring with a properly gorgeous, intense blue sapphire at its centre. It’s a wonderfully saturated stone, flanked by two bright natural diamonds that give it just the right amount of sparkle. I also love the square cut - classic, but a little bit different 🔷

No September birthday required, obviously. I’m not here to impose unnecessary rules on jewellery buying. 😉

Hello, new magpies 👋 I suppose it’s time I showed my face…

I’m Sophie - the person behind Little Vintage Emporium, although judging by this account you’d be forgiven for thinking it was run by a large black dog.

I started Little Vintage Emporium because I love old jewellery: proper gold, beautiful stones, unusual designs and pieces with a bit of history behind them. I source everything myself, and one of my favourite parts of this job is finding your next treasure 🪎

I struggle a little with showing my face on here - a fact that Instagram doesn’t particularly approve of - so I often ask my team members to hop on instead. 😉

First up is Willow, Head of Goodest Girl Department. Her duties include supervising parcels, interrupting photography and generally being far more popular on Instagram than I am 🐾

Then there’s Mannie, who contributes absolutely nothing to the day-to-day running of LVE but does take a surprisingly keen interest in the company finances. Mainly the outgoing ones. 🐴

And somewhere amongst all of that is me: sourcing jewellery, photographing it, researching it, packing your orders and trying to remember which of my approximately 47 small-business jobs I was doing before I got distracted 🤭

So if you’re new here, hello and welcome! 💛 Expect lots of vintage and antique gold, beautiful stones, interesting old things, the occasional historical rabbit hole and regular appearances from the supporting cast.

A little Sunday evening diamond temptation… 💎

Because apparently what Sunday night really needs is six old-cut diamonds.

These are such lovely little everyday studs: six natural old-cut diamonds set in 18ct gold, with a beautiful little bow/ribbon design. At just 7mm they’re delicate, sparkly and would look particularly fabulous mixed with hoops and tiny studs in a multi-piercing ear stack.

The original screw backs were damaged, so I’ve replaced them with new 9ct gold ones - 18ct replacements would have added around £200 to the price, which felt excessive for the bit nobody actually sees!

A little twist on the gold hoop. Quite literally. ✨

These vintage 9ct hoops have that lovely twisted finish which catches the light beautifully - enough detail to make them interesting, while still being firmly in the wear them with absolutely everything category.
