As one of North Down Craft Collective newest members I am delighted to be taking part in this years Summer Art and Craft Festival WWT Castle Espie

For the first time, this event, which is part of August Craft Month will take place over 2 days, 15th and 16th August. Although I myself, am only exhibiting on Saturday 15th.

With lots of highly talented artists and makers, workshops and demonstrations there will be something for everyone in the beautiful surroundings of Castle Espie

I am delighted to be one of the newest members of North Down Craft Collective and to be taking part in the Summer Craft Festival in August, save the date!

Today we officially launched our Summer Craft Festival at a beautifully sunny and picturesque Castle Espie. In just 4 weeks time we will be opening the doors on our first ever 2 day craft festival here at WWT Castle Espie, Comber.

On Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th we will be joined by 30 of our members exhibiting their beautiful, locally produced crafts throughout the centre. Expect ceramics, jewellery, textile art, fine art, hand poured candles, woodwork, artisan soaps, knitwear, sustainable products and much more.

For the first time, we will also be hosting a series of workshops across the two days all of which are available to check out and book now on our website.

Why not get the dates in your diary and plan a fantastic day (or two) out, celebrating craft, learning a new skill, having some me/family time, enjoying the cafe and gardens or even taking a trot around the wetlands area on the Lough foreshore?

Silver brooch with 9ct yellow gold detail and moonstones. Circa 2008
It's still one of my favourites, looking stunning in the spring sunshine streaming in my workshop window.

I am out with the blue wax today, carving up a bespoke ring to be cast in gold. I enjoy the process of wax carving. You can create a model quite quickly, although it has been a while since my last efforts, so I am a little rusty. Check in with me again later to see how this ring turns out.

Taking one last glide along the cabinet shelves The March showcase, The Golem and the Jiinni, ends today 24th March.
Looking back it feels like this month has flown by, but I have loved every minute of it.
It's been so good to take part, to give myself the challenge of creating a body of work for this showcase. To get out of the workshop, travel, meet new people, make new friends. And also to realise, despite making jewellery for almost 30 years, I still have so much to learn.

In a week when we have had the first warm days of spring it's been great to take a moment away from the bench, to feel the sun on my face again after a long winter.
At this time of year, at the changing of the seasons you never know from one day to the next what's the weather is going to do. Just as in life, you just have to roll with it. Keep the woolly hat and winter coat to hand, I have a feeling winter is reluctant to leave this year.

Do you have a preference? Silver, or gold?

I love working in both these precious metals, which is why I often use this silver and 22ct gold bi-metal. It is so versatile I can create so many different effects.
The gold is fused on the silver in a sheet, 80% silver - 20% gold so it's much thicker and more durable than gold plating. You really can have the best of both ✨️
