A customer brought me some jewellery her mum had left her, including this lovely dark green tourmaline. She wanted a ring she’d love wearing, with something of her mum always close.
We went through a few designs together, and she loved the idea of a beautiful natural diamond beside the tourmaline. Around them are diamonds from her mum’s jewellery, plus more we added to complete the ring.
All set in platinum, with some beautiful basket work underneath. A proper substantial ring too, weighing around 19 grams!
There’s something lovely about seeing those stones being worn again. I hope it makes her smile whenever it catches her eye, and brings back a happy memory of her mum.
So pleased I got to make this one.

It was an absolute pleasure designing and making this ring with Miles.

He came in wanting something organic and flowery. As we worked through the design, “whimsical” was the word that came to my mind, with the flowing gold details giving it a little fairytale feel.

Here’s some of the work behind the ring, with its oval diamond and two blue sapphires, followed by the lovely photos he sent me after proposing.

Her smile says so much! Seeing them both so happy made my day. Congratulations to you both, and thank you, Miles, for trusting me to make it. I’m so pleased I could be a small part of this moment ❤️ x

This brooch originally belonged to Bernie’s great-grandmother. It was passed down to her mum and then eventually to Bernie.

The large centre stone is a beautiful antique old-cut cushion diamond, with a small table and deep pavilion. I used it to create Bernie’s platinum Art Deco-inspired target ring, surrounded by the smaller eight-cut diamonds and finished with fine beaded edges.

The remaining diamonds were used to make a very different ring for Bernie’s daughter, Tasha: a yellow-gold Victorian-inspired floral cluster with more of a cocktail-ring feel.

It was lovely being able to create two individual rings from one family brooch, while keeping the original diamonds together within the family.

Thank you for trusting me with something so special.

A little look at what goes into casting a piece of jewellery in our workshop.

The wax models are attached to a tree and placed inside a flask, which is then filled with investment. Once the investment has set, the flask goes into the furnace for a long, controlled heating cycle before it is ready for casting.

The final part shows me preparing our casting machine for the next batch.

When working with inherited jewellery, I use as much of the customer’s original precious metal as possible. Sometimes fresh metal needs to be added to achieve the correct carat, colour and casting quality.

Being able to carry out the melting and casting here in our own workshop means I can look after the material throughout the process. I understand that these pieces often have far more sentimental value than monetary value, so they are always treated with the care and respect they deserve.

A little glimpse of my time in Rome 🇮🇹

Two weeks of long days in the workshop, new techniques, new friends, amazing food, a beautiful language, incredible architecture and the chance to work alongside some seriously talented artists. What an experience.

I’m genuinely grateful, lucky and proud to have been part of it. I came home with new skills, a fresh perspective and plenty that I’ll now bring into my own work.

I had planned to share much more while I was away, but the workshop days were long and full-on, and I wanted to make the most of every minute. Now that I’m back, I’ll start posting again and sharing some of the beautiful pieces I’ve been making for some amazing people.

Grazie, Roma 🇮🇹

I’ve known Pam almost from when I first started working at Tempus, and over the years we’ve built such a lovely friendship. I’ve always enjoyed catching up with her about family, life and, of course, jewellery. Pam has exquisite taste.

She had some beautiful vintage jewellery set with hand-cut, old-cut natural diamonds. Each diamond was slightly different from the next, and every one was absolutely stunning.

For years, Pam had wanted a beautiful flower cluster ring. We kept the lovely beaded edge around each diamond, bezel-set the stones and made a scalloped basket in platinum. After taking the diamonds out of the original jewellery, I melted down the remaining gold and used it to make the shank by hand.

I’m so grateful to Pam for her patience and for trusting me, as she always has. The photos and video really don’t do this ring justice. It was a real pleasure making such a special piece for such a lovely lady. ❤️

Buongiorno from Rome 🇮🇹

After months of planning, I’ve finally arrived.

I’m here for the next two weeks for advanced stone-setting training with some of the best in the industry.

I’ve worked hard over the years to reach the level I’m at, but in this trade you never stop learning. This experience is about discovering new techniques, seeing different ways of working and bringing that knowledge back to my workshop in Exmouth.

It’s a real honour to be here, and I honestly can’t wait to get started.

I’ll share a few moments from the experience along the way.

Rome, here we go! 💎

Christina & Toby

I first met Christina and Toby through Sara, and I am incredibly grateful for both the recommendation and the trust they placed in me to create their wedding rings.

Toby's ring carries a very special story. Using inherited family gold and his Nan's platinum wedding band, we wanted to preserve the original piece rather than alter it beyond recognition. The platinum was carefully rolled and hand-hammered into the new wedding band, creating a seamless inlay without a solder joint, allowing a part of his family's story to remain with him every day.

For Christina's ring, I handcrafted a platinum wishbone band to sit perfectly alongside her engagement ring, setting it with beautiful Ceylon sapphires and diamonds to create a piece that felt elegant, timeless and uniquely hers.

This short video shows a little of the journey behind the scenes; melting the gold, handcrafting the bands, rolling the platinum, hand-hammering it into place and setting the stones one by one.

Congratulations Christina & Toby.

Thank you both for allowing me to be a small part of your forever.
