This goes out to all the very very many lovely men out there. The ones reading the Cornell university news in shock and horror*. Can you please do something to make this better and can you please not ask women to do the working out for you?
Here’s a few starter ideas: share the story proactively with your WhatsApp all-male groups; talk openly with your friends and family members- your sons, at whatever age can and must learn what consent really looks like; START conversations, don’t wait for it to come up; call it out when boys and men belittle ‘feminine’ things- yes, it starts at that basic level: othering and negging ‘girl stuff’ can become seeing women and girls themselves as lesser people; it’s not enough not to do horrible stuff yourself, we’re all part of a society that allows that to happen and women have been doing way too much of the work on it.

Oh look I inadvertently started doing some working out. I’ll stop. Over to you, lads.

*because the women reading it are horrified but not shocked.

“I cAnT aFford to pAy a dESignEr” NONE OF US CAN AFFORD TO LOSE THE BEES. If building data centres continues to be prioritised over, I don’t know let me think, preserving habitats for the creatures which literally prop up our ecosystem and pollinate at least a third of the world’s crops we will be in serious trouble. The AI bros and their billionaire investors are telling us it’s inevitable and desirable and the only way. But that’s just because they’ll lose money if it’s not. We don’t HAVE to do this.
Also, put some effort in. You might like it.

This quote is attributed to Groucho Marx. We’ve got it up in our kitchen and it I think it perfectly sums up for me the absurdity of NEUTRALITY. Part of being human is having the guts to stand for something, beyond the survival of your self and your family. Principles are only really real if you’re prepared to stand up for them, regardless of personal cost. And if I hear one more commentator say that music shouldn’t be political I will SCREAM. Imagine going through your life thinking music wasn’t one of the oldest forms of expression WHICH HAS AND WILL ALWAYS INCLUDE POLITICS BECAUSE PRINCIPLES ARE POLITICAL AND HUMAN FFS AAAAAGGGHGHGHGHGH

They say that, in a disaster, you should look for the helpers. It feels like we’re in a constant cycle of disasters and, perversely, some our bravest helpers are under attack. We have to keep countering the aggression masquerading as patriotism. Compassion, hope and community are what I choose to promote and what I still believe most people care about.

I hate these posters advertising ANY business, but when they’re for ‘creative’ events it really boils my p!ss. The unnecessary environmental impact is enough of a turn off on its own, but couple that with an underlying disdain for design, unique thought, human skill and creativity- it makes me scream! It’s the perfect way to tell me you don’t actually value visual arts at all. Give me hand drawn ideally but even clip art or Comic bloody Sans. SOMETHING that has taken a HUMAN a moment to actually think about what they want to convey and how they might do it. I’m not suggesting every village fete hires a designer, but a photo of the venue with some bold text on top would be a trillion times better than these generic, muddy, soulless, identikit puke-fests.

The International Organization for Migration estimates that there could be anywhere from 25 million to 1 billion environmental migrants by the year 2050. You would think that Nigel and his ilk would be the most climate conscious activists alive, wouldn’t you? Unless, wait, they wouldn’t be doing it for the r@cist grift as a distraction from the billions pouring into their divisive narrative from fossil fuel companies and tech giants, would they? WOULD THEY?
Trying very very hard to keep my cool literally and metaphorically and do as my mum always tells me- sweep my own side of the street.

As my partner (husband, but that still sounds weird) said this morning, more and more I feel like Ra’s al Ghul had the right idea.
