The soft, watery blues of aquamarine alongside the rich, smoky purple-grey of sapphire. I love how these two gemstones work together, especially with the warmth of 22ct gold fused onto the silver pendant.

When I begin a new piece, I often sit down with my beads and sketchbook without a finished design in mind. I start playing with shapes and ideas, and gradually something begins to take form.

It’s one of my favourite parts of making jewellery, letting the materials inspire me and seeing where the design takes me.

If this one-of-a-kind necklace has caught your eye, do get in touch. I’d be very happy to tell you more about it, including the price and how to make it yours.

Someone has to make sure the work gets done around here…

Unfortunately, Josephine has decided that someone isn’t her. 😂

Her role in the studio mainly involves finding the warmest spot, lounging in increasingly inconvenient places and occasionally checking that I’m still working.

It’s a tough job, but apparently someone has to do it.

Meanwhile, I’ll just carry on making the jewellery… 🔨✨

Meet two of the Artists joining me this November at my Winter Open House ✨

Sabine König is a fellow jeweller whose work combines traditional goldsmithing with bold, contemporary design. Working in silver and recycled 18ct and 22ct gold, she has a particular love of unusual coloured gemstones and Tahitian and freshwater pearls. Many of her pieces are one-offs, designed around the individual character of the stone.
→

Amanda Franklin creates handbuilt stoneware ceramics here in Medway – from sculptural heads to functional vessels. Her work explores form, surface and texture, with inspiration coming from landscapes, machinery, urban decay and the built environment. Layered glazes, patina and mark-making give her pieces a wonderful sense of age and history – what Amanda describes as “making tomorrow’s artefacts.”

I love how different their work is, and that’s part of the joy of the Open House – filling my home with work from creative people I admire and then welcoming you all in to discover it.

All her loved ones, reunited in one piece. ✨

A customer brought me a collection of sentimental jewellery during Medway Open Studios. Some pieces belonged to her mum, grandparents and brother.

She wanted to combine them into one ring she could wear every day, while keeping the memories and meaning behind each original piece.

She already had a clear idea of the design she wanted, and from there I could begin the process of bringing it to life.

First, I carefully removed the diamonds from the original jewellery, ready to be reset into the new design. The gold and silver were then melted down, combining those individual pieces into the metal for her new ring.

From there, the new ring began to take shape before the original diamonds were set back into it — the same precious stones and metals, but completely transformed.

From old to new, her loved ones and memories are now together in one very special piece she can keep close and wear every day. 💜

Have jewellery tucked away that you no longer wear but could never part with? Get in touch to talk about how we could transform it into something made especially for you.

I’m heading to Faversham this October!

I’ll be taking part in East Kent Artists’ Open Houses, exhibiting from Joan MacKarell’s workshop at Faversham Reach over three weekends.

I’ll be there alongside fellow jewellers Joan MacKarell and Sabine König, and ceramic artist Amanda Franklin.

Amanda is a late addition to our little group, so you won’t find her in the printed Faversham catalogue, but I’m so pleased she’ll be joining us. Her ceramic work is beautiful and definitely worth coming to see.

It’s always lovely exhibiting alongside other makers and having the opportunity to talk about our work, the materials we use and how pieces are made. I’ll be bringing a selection of my jewellery, so do come along, have a browse and say hello.

This beautiful opal ring began with a visit to my studio during Medway Open Studios.

Before coming along, my client had spotted an opal ring on my website and hoped it might still be available. Sadly, it had sold, but fortunately I had a small selection of opals in the studio — and she immediately fell in love with this one.

It worked out perfectly. Rather than recreating the original ring, we designed something completely new together, made especially for her.

Throughout the making process, I kept her updated with photos on WhatsApp, so she could follow each stage and see the work involved in creating a ring by hand.

Now finished, she loves it and wears it all the time — always the best thing to hear. 🩵

Opals are extraordinary stones, with flashes of colour that shift as light moves across them. They form when water, carrying silica from the surrounding rock, seeps into cracks and spaces in the ground. As the water gradually evaporates, it leaves behind tiny layers of silica gel, which harden over many years to form opal. In Australia, where most of the world’s opals are found, this process has created some of the most beautiful and distinctive stones.

Each opal is completely unique, making choosing the stone a special part of the design process.

I’m so pleased with how this ring turned out, and even happier that the opal has found someone who loves it so much.

Have you ever thought about commissioning your own jewellery?

Some commissions begin with a clear idea. Others begin with a rummage through my gemstone collection!

This ring was created for a dear friend, who instantly fell in love with this beautiful Aquamarine and vibrant green Tourmaline. After exploring a few sketches together, we arrived at this unique design.

I love that this ring reflects both of our ideas. Bringing two gemstones together like this isn’t something you see every day, but the colours complement each other beautifully and create something completely individual.

It’s a lovely reminder that the best commissions are often a collaboration – combining my craftsmanship with someone else’s vision to create a piece that’s full of meaning and impossible to replicate.

Have you ever thought about creating a piece of jewellery that’s uniquely yours? I’d love to help bring your ideas to life.

This remarkable Pyrite in Quartz travelled all the way from Brazil, and the moment I saw its beautiful golden dots, I knew exactly what I wanted to create.

Those natural markings inspired the dot detailing around the ring, while my signature concave silver band is finished with fused 22ct yellow gold and 18ct white gold.

The stone itself is set in silver and gold, allowing its natural beauty to remain the focal point.

No two Pyrite in Quartz gemstones are ever the same, which makes this ring completely one of a kind.

Thank you to my favourite gemstone dealer, in Hatton Garden, for sourcing such extraordinary stones.

Sometimes a stone inspires the design from the very beginning.
