Today has been another good day! πŸ€—

My good friend Nathalie came over to lend a hand. She bravely held the glass sheets as I screwed them back into the grey cabinet and cleaned each one. We fitted the glass shelves into the white cabinets and cleaned those. I treated her to lunch and then we polished a load of silver rings for stock. It was all valuable time well spent and I’m very grateful to her - it was great to catch up too πŸ₯°

Next I attempted to paint the pole in the window, it was pink but it’s a luxurious gold now - although needs another coat. Luckily Fabia my neighbour pointed to the bits I had missed - but then I had a brainwave of using a mirror to see around the tricky to reach corner! It was entertaining for quite a few passers by! πŸ˜…

Next I cleaned my beautiful windows! The glass is vintage so it has fabulous tiny bubbles in it, it is my favourite feature of the shop! 😍

One of the best things though - the painters arrived! Whoop whoop! πŸ₯³ The blue is starting to look just right and has already had compliments! πŸ’™

I took yesterday off and I think I made up for lost time today! πŸ˜…

I’m hoping this is the last of the emulsion painting, I have done every inch of the ceiling, the walls and the downstairs loo in white. It was a really treat today to finally add some colour. I colour matched my business blue brand colour with a Dulux colour picker and I just love it. I have used it on two feature walls, I think less is more! πŸ’™

The woodwork needs a quick flick over to brighten it up tomorrow and then I can get onto cleaning and unpacking my boxes!

It’s starting to look like the shop that I dreamed and hoped it would be, I think I’m on track for a friends and family opening evening and then trading on Saturday 27th June! 🀞

I’m looking forward to actually making some stock by the end of the week! πŸ€—

β€œI’m not a carpenter but I will do my best” said Gerry! πŸͺš

I needed a counter at the shop and wanted something with some character, sturdy and stylish. I found five 1930’s doors on Facebook Marketplace a couple of weeks ago, a plan came together and we rented a van to collect them 🚚

I drew a few sketches, found a few ideas on Pinterest and Gerry and my dad conjured up some power tools to get the project going ✨

We collected some wood for building the carcassing earlier in the week and Gerry started to build the counters yesterday. It was great to see Gerry getting stuck in - it was a challenge that he was looking forward to!

This morning I collected scaffold boards for the top of the counters, which Gerry has since cut to size, fitted, sanded and added a central metal band with copper nails, this compliments another table centrepiece in the shop. It was heartwarming to see him in the zone, happy and singing as he worked πŸ€—

It has been a full on day but the finished counter is amazing! I’m so pleased with it and Gerry is chuffed with it too! The care and attention to detail added to this piece is above and beyond πŸ₯Ή

I’m so grateful to Gerry for spending a week off work to help me organise the shop layout, move furniture, be a van driver and a carpenter! Thank you Gerry 😘 ###

The vans are getting bigger and the the journeys are getting longer! πŸ›£οΈ

On Monday Gerry and I rented a van to make the journey from Folkestone to Sheepy Magna in Leicestershire, to collect yet more furniture, tools and stuff from my old shop and parents house 🚚

We chose a tail lift van as we were bringing back my vintage safe, which is very heavy! It was left in the first house that I ever bought, in the cupboard under the stairs and has been with me for almost 30 years! πŸ€—

We also bought back my rolling mill and a fly press - both sturdy metal machines that take some moving!

I was lucky enough to have a very generous friend Deb - thank you! πŸ’ She gifted two double IKEA display cabinets to me. I think Gerry and I earned them carrying them down two winding flights of stairs, it was a bit scary!

Add to that two settee’s, boxes, stuff that my parents are glad to see the back of! We headed back yesterday and emptied the van in the evening once the Old High Street was open to traffic. It was a long day but after a fish and chip dinner, we headed back with renewed energy and organised the chaos!

The next task for me is painting and Gerry is building my counters from some very sturdy 1930’s doors! πŸ€—

Bye bye Folkestone Harbour. The end of an era as I hand the keys back to the hut! πŸ₯Ή

It’s all freshly painted and looking fantastic inside, ready for handover to the next trader.

The deckchair gave me lots of happy moments, overhearing families laugh at the size of it and laugh louder and harder as they try to get out of it. The deckchair had to feature with the keys for my last photo.

As I took my phone out to take the shot, I noticed my phone said β€˜11:11’. A symbolic angel number to signify being on the right track! My screen photo was back from a photoshoot with , one of the few of me and my partner Gerry as we called it a wrap. Happy memories πŸ€—

I’m now at the shop trying to make sense of the chaos of my furniture and belongings! πŸ˜‚

Today has been another full on one! πŸ˜…

I was up at 6.30am working on admin bits and bobs, I’m currently finding value for money in my Canva subscription at the moment! I designed a new website banner, need to tackle earring and necklace cards next. I’m over the moon with my latest business stationery, the branding was designed by , it’s great to see more of it in print, the light doesn’t do the blue full justice! Looking forward to making good use of the wrapping paper, stickers and displaying the bunting in the shop! πŸ’™

Today I have emptied out the final bits that we didn’t clear out of the hut yesterday. I repainted all of the walls, the inner side of the doors and even painted the floor - wish I’d have done that sooner to have reaped the benefits! It all looks very presentable, it might need another lick of paint on the walls but I’m on target for giving the keys back tomorrow! πŸ’₯ Don’t forget to follow my new account πŸ’™

I got my shop keys! πŸ—οΈπŸ₯³πŸ”‘βœ¨

It’s been all systems go over the last 24 hours! I completed packing up the hut yesterday and finished packing my home studio stuff in my flat late last night! πŸ“¦

The removal men were at my door just after midday, loaded items from my flat, then the hut and delivered it to the shop! 🚚 Not one to sit around and watch, I got stuck in too, I actually did 12,600 steps today - that’s around 5 miles! πŸ˜… If you ever need a removals company in Folkestone, go to A&M, I have used them a few times now. The nicest most efficient team! πŸ₯°

Drenched and exhausted I treated myself to a hot chocolate with all the trimmings from the Steep Street Cafe!

I’m enjoying a bit of downtime now ready for more action with a bit more moving and painting the hut ready for returning the keys! πŸ€—

Big thanks to my partner Gerry for organising the hut and propping me up as and when needed 😘

This is a roller coaster 🎒 My stress levels were taking that ride yesterday! 😝

My morning started at 7.30am, polishing rings and bangles ready to give to Laura from Anysomething Photography. She’s shooting the items for marketing my beginners jewellery making workshops on Wednesday and we had arranged to meet at The Burlington after Ladies Who Latte. The first Monday of the month is the Ladies Who Latte networking event, it starts at 10am at The Burlington Hotel.

I had given myself a time limit to stop polishing at 9am, in order to get to the networking event on time. I finished polishing and cleaning up the jewellery at 8.55am. Managed to collect tools together for the shoot, shower, dress, have breakfast and be out of the door by 9.57am! 😬

It was lovely to meet friends and acquaintances at Ladies Who Latte and I shared my plans of opening my shop with them. At this point I still hadn’t signed the lease - a delay with the paperwork had slowed it, which was getting a bit stressful now. I knew it was in progress from the 20 missed calls from electricity service providers that I had dodged since 7am! ⚑️

I’m not a planner, but the previous week, I had arranged for A&M Removals to empty the hut and items from my flat to go to the shop on Wednesday! I had hoped to have the hut emptied, repainted and ready for handover this Friday! πŸ—“οΈ

A couple of phone calls later, the lease was emailed to me, signed and witnessed before the end of the working day πŸ₯³ During all of this throughout the afternoon, I was at the hut dismantling! Everything is freed from the walls except the shelf, ready for hole filling and making sense of the chaos on the floor! I called it a day at 6pm πŸ˜…

A phone call later today will confirm the removals company - we are currently in limbo! I’m hoping today is less frantic, but have been awake since 3am! 😴

Luck and sleeping remedy advice would be most welcome! πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ€

Today is my last day at the hut before I close to prepare to open a shop on The Old High Street! πŸ€—

I opened the doors to my first hut on Saturday 4th May 2024, so have been on site (in two other huts since) for a little over two years. 🌊

During this time have met lots of visitors, customers that have become friends, other traders that have been a great community, the friendly and supportive management that keep things running and the operatives that keep the place looking fabulous. My thanks go out to everyone that has been welcoming to me, at a time where I was new to the area and didn’t know anyone! πŸ₯°

I hope to see familiar faces when I open my shop on The Old High Street, the date will be announced next month. In the meantime, please follow my new account as I’m rebranding to πŸ€—

I’m open from 11-6 at the harbour today.
