A few snippets from the studio and beyond.

New mug design, what do we think?

Loading the kiln for a glaze firing.

A walk in one of my favourite places, listening to the birds.

My pride and joy.

How I make sure the kiln shelves don’t touch pieces in the glaze firing.

Months of work boxed up ready to go to its new home.

Coffee date.

A layer of a bisque load

Another of my favourite places to recharge.

Teapot redemption part 2!
We did it! A mostly successful teapot! Apart from a little dribble, I would say this was a win! It was a challenge with the glazing as I had so little left so I was super nervous about messing that up. I feel in a way making a teapot for many potters is a milestone, it’s only taking me 6 years to finally do it 😅 which I guess is a good reminder that we all do things at different speeds and are on our own journeys!

A few years ago I attempted to make a teapot pot (I’ve actually tried to make a few in the past) and failed horribly! The one before that I’m referring to in this video I broke when it was green ware and I was devastated, it took me a while to recover and try again 😅. So hopefully this will be my redemption 🤞

I took this footage a few months ago and it is part one of a two part story where I show you the process of making a teapot pot. One thing pottery teaches you is patience and you will fail but you gotta keep going. It’s all part of the learning process. There are so many things that can go wrong in tea pot making, will it crack in the drying? Will the spout be drippy?(Nobody wants a drippy spout) Will the glaze firing work or will the lid get stuck to the main body *subtle foreshadowing maybe* it is a rollercoaster. But I hope you enjoy seeing the process what ever the outcome

P.s please excuse the weird lighting in this video, I’m still trying to figure it out

A couple of snippets from the week!

I was struggling to post this because I didn’t have a “perfect” cover image. But if I waited for things to be perfect I would never post (kind of like I didn’t for the beginning of the year 🤫) I need to work on my product photography and also getting more pieces glazed to show! Im slowly getting there but its a slow process and there are some exciting things I’m working on I can’t share just yet so there is even less to show at the moment. So these are just a few messy clips from the week.
I’ve also been thinking a lot about my glazes lately and notice myself gravitating towards more earthy colours, I’m nervous to go down this route because people love the colourful glazes I use. But it is something I want to explore and I feel will work well with the shape and style of my work. What do you think, keep the bright colours or explore and go to the earthy darker tones?

I haven’t been posting, but I have been working away.
Slowly working on new ideas, orders and testing out new glazes.
Finding the fun in pottery again after a few years of being in production mode.
Will I get better at posting about it? Probably not, but that’s okay.

Just a little look into what a day in the life of this potter can look like, each day is so different and I think that’s one of the things I really enjoy about pottery it that everyday is different, and there’s such a mix of things to be done!

I don’t think I’ve ever done a post to introduce myself, so thought now would be a good time… Hi I’m Jenny! 👋 I’m the potter behind Jenny Brown Studio. I’m based in Moray in the North of Scotland, I’m a predominantly self taught potter and have now been doing pottery for about 4 years. Last year I decided to give it a go and go full time into pottery, at the same time as renovating a house with my partner (might not have been the best idea, the house may never get finished) but I am absolutely loving working on my dream (even though sometimes the self doubt gremlins creep in and try to ruin it for me). And here are some bits about me I thought I could share with you all…

1. I was scared to try pottery because I knew I would love it but was scared to be bad at it, turns out patience and practice help, and I can’t wait to see where I am with it in another 4 years. (If you’re looking for a sign to give it a go this is that sign! Try it!)
2. I’ve recently got back into swimming and it is now most of what I do in my free time (I have the cap and everything).
3. I’m renovating a house with my partner as already stated. We are doing most of it ourselves 😅
4. I’m an awkward bean, I normally say the wrong thing or stumble over my words.
5. It’s pretty lonely being a potter sometimes, I spend most of my time alone. But on the flip side the pottery community is awesome, I haven’t met a fellow potter who I haven’t liked. Everyone is so willing to help and give advice or words of encouragement.
6. I’m a low spoon (energy) girly which sometimes has an effect on my work and can be super frustrating but I’m learning to pace myself and listen to my body when it’s telling me to slow down.
7. I’m growing a herb garden to make my own teas from and absolutely loving it.

In the slides
1. Me (today) at my wheel
2. A quick clip of me throwing some tea cup bases
3. One of my first pieces next to one of my latest pieces
4. Loading up my little kiln
5. My first market selling my pottery
6. My latest market
7. Moving from my old studio to my current one
8. Me in renovation mode 👷🏻‍♀️

Matcha bowls! I made these deep matcha bowls with a simple functional shape. I decided to glaze them in white, purple and black as I thought the contrast between the bowl and the green of the matcha would give a lovely pop of colour, what do you think? I’m curious to know which colour you prefer, let me know in the poll!

These matcha bowls will be available this Friday on my shop update (4th July)
