I’m currently working on making a sterling silver hinged bangle. This is a first for me.

Just look at the teeny tiny hinge!! The next step is to cut the bangle open and hope my soldering has worked so that the hinge enables the bangle to open and close.

I decided that’s a job for tomorrow 😂

I can also weave in sentimental pieces of your jewellery. For example, the beads in a hair vine I made for a bride recently all came from her mother’s wedding tiara, adding wonderful sentimentality and extra meaning to her hair decoration for her special day.

Firstly a huge 🥰THANK YOU🥰 to everyone who liked, commented or messaged me about my post yesterday. Your positivity and kindness has more than erased my negative experience and left me smiling (and happy crying!).

If you are relatively new to following me, (as FB is seemingly fairly random is who it selects for my posts to pop up into your feed), then a huge welcome 🤗

I create handmade jewellery from scratch, in sterling silver & copper mainly, but my real love is to be able to rescue neglected pieces and either bring them back to their former glory; remodel them with new twists and additions working at my jeweller’s bench; or repurpose broken or costume pieces into new jewellery, decor, hair & bridal accessories…

As all my pieces are unique I could never manage to list them all, so I try to show lots with regular posts on this page; have a selection in local shops in Fraserburgh & Banff; and take a bigger range to craft fayres in Aberdeenshire - see my pinned posts for full details.

Yesterday I experienced a first with a craft stall and unfortunately it wasn’t a good one.

I had a ring stolen 🥲

The bottom right ring was a lovely wide band sterling silver ring, with a small clear, flush set stone that I was told had tested as a diamond (although without certification I would not sell it as such - there too many cheaply available testers that are not reliable).

I think I know when it went. I had a couple at my stall who were very good at distraction techniques - I was aware of four - but obviously my concentration lapsed at one point.

By selling jewellery I suppose I look like I can afford to lose a ring or two. Unfortunately that isn’t the case. After fees and costs yesterday my takings were £38 from which I can pay myself for all the time I spent making or restoring the six pieces I sold (not accounting for tools or products used in doing so), plus the 7 hours I spent there on the day and the hour for set up the day before. I’m not sure what my hourly rate would be but definitely under £3 an hour, before deducting the loss of the ring.

Don’t get me wrong. I love what I do and believe in it as I hate waste and unnecessary scrapping of jewellery that just needs some TLC. If I can reduce jewellery related landfill and carbon footprints a little whilst making people happy with their purchases then I’m achieving my aims.

I recognise that working with individual pieces means my business model is time consuming and will never provide a good return. As business models go it’s pretty terrible but I choose to do it as I believe in my eco-warrior jeweller mission!

However, having something stolen just made me a bit sad. I hope that the ring is worn and enjoyed, or if sold for scrap the money helps a little with someone’s desperate finances.

Set up now for the Fraserburgh Vintage Car Rally Official at the Leisure Centre. Here until 4pm today with my lovingly restored silver jewellery and repurposed jewelled accessories.

The weather is beautiful, the cars amazing and there are over 70 stalls plus entertainment so hopefully lots of you will come along.

I’m excited today as I’m getting everything for the Fraserburgh Vintage Car Rally, this Sunday at the Leisure Centre, from 10.30am to 4pm.

I’ll be bringing along a range of my handmade pieces made by recycling broken jewellery ♻️💎, as well as some gorgeous pieces of vintage and preowned silver jewellery that I have restored back to beautiful, ready to wear condition.
