With sessions at The Sage Gateshead and increasingly throughout the North East region, participants work with ex

perienced and accessible tutors. Through workshops and performances the Silver Programme expands the current and dormant skills of members as well as encouraging and developing new and emerging ones.

Silver Breves: Classical Music singing group. A group for those who like to attempt more complicated and challenging sacred and secular work. The repertoire ranges from Elizabethan madrigals to contemporary settings of religious pieces.

Silver Choir: If you fancy pushing yourself a little more, take up this new opportunity to try out for a voice tested performance choir.
Can you hold a part? Would you like to improve your vocal technique? Do you fancy representing the Silver Programme at external events? Are you prepared to have a try at singing without copies and commit time to learning your parts?

Silversmiths: Blues, Jazz, Gospel a wide range of repertoire from a wide range of artists ‘free up your voice’ within a supportive environment. No previous experience is necessary – just your passion and enthusiasm.

Silver Singers Newcastle / Silver Singers Gateshead / Silver Singers North Shields:
Silver Singers is a community Choir for anyone over 50 who likes to sing. The material is a mix of world music, popular songs, folk songs, spirituals, Geordie songs, anything from Cole Porter to Annie Lennox!

Silver Singers Stanley/Silver Singers South Shields/Silver Singers Easington: Friendly, relaxed groups of people who love to sing a wide ranging repertoire which includes folk and pop songs from this country and around the world. All welcome.
Tea, coffee and biscuits available before sessions.

Silver Divas: Project based performance opportunities for men and women, accompanied by piano, working on everything from popular songs to Broadway classics. As the name suggests, this group doesn’t hide its light under a bushel - the emphasis is on energy, enthusiasm and most of all fun. No experience necessary, just a good dose of passion and gusto!

Opera d’argento: The chance to work on operas and operettas from around the world. These fun and lively workshops are suitable for anyone who can follow a part.

Silver Rock Choir: ‘Rock Choirs’ are all the rage at the moment – but our ‘Silver Rock Choir’ will of course approach Rock and Pop standards with our normal eye to quality and learning. Meeting at our lovely new Silver RockShack at the Linskill Centre, Silver Rock Choir will offer a chance to improve your accompanied voice whilst enjoying a fresh approach to well known songs from our teens and onwards!

Quicksilver: A friendly group of singers singing well known pop and rock songs. An opportunity to learn microphone performance skills and amplified singing techniques as well as tackling unaccompanied acoustic work.

Silvers Rock Friday: Silvers Rock, a vibrant and exciting Rock band. This group is larger in size and generally looks at 'Rock Anthems'. The group includes acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass, drums, percussion and vocals. This group is open to all levels of ability and is sure to bring out the inner rock star in you!

Silvers Rock Thursday: A vibrant and exciting Rock band similar to Silvers Rock Friday. Playing guitar based rock anthems. Open to all abilities featuring percussion, bass, guitar and vocals. Unleash your inner rock star!

Silver & Gold: An established group developing arrangements over a wide range of material. Hone your arranging skills and work with others to determine its future musical direction!

Stainless Steel: Eclectic band workshop covering acoustic rock, folk rock and electric rock.

Silver Skiffle: Folk, blues and trad jazz influences along with tea chest bass and washboard.

Rock Solid: Come along and discover your inner Pop star! This group will concentrate on the pop side of Rock and will give opportunities for those interested in solo work. This group will look at Rock and Pop from the 50's to present day. This group will include guitar, bass, drums and vocals and participants should be competent in these areas. (Leading to being peer led)

Drum Kit Tuition: Ever wanted to play drums in a band? In these weekly sessions you'll learn what it takes to play in any band including basic Rock, Pop, Funk and Soul. This opportunity is open to all abilities and the sessions are tailor made for you.

Silver Mandolin: Improve and develop your Mandolin skills in a small friendly group.
Lessons also available for absolute beginners.

Silver Sambanistas: Join this group for a fun and exciting introduction to the world of percussion. In this group you will get the chance to play a wide range of percussion instruments, mainly focusing on Samba rythmns from Brazil. This group is suitable for all abilities and doesn't require any previous percussion background.
Silver Beginner Guitar: Absolute beginners welcome! Experience neither desired nor required! Learn guitar in a supportive group through playing and singing.

Don’t Fret (Silver Improver Guitar): Not a beginner but want to hone those skills? Improvers will consolidate and build upon skills learnt as beginners in a friendly and supportive environment.

Silver Acoustics: A group for those who want to focus on guitar playing and singing a wide range of material from traditional, 50s, 60s,70s to the present. Come and learn all the three chord tricks in the book!

Silver Guitar Extra (Guitar Group): An opportunity for people interested in taking their skills on the guitar further. This group will work on techniques of solo guitar playing, such as Ragtime, Blues and finger style guitar and also play fun pieces as an ensemble. The silver guitar lessons are also a great chance to meet and share music with other guitarists in a friendly and informal setting, giving you a chance to learn from one other and have fun whilst you do.

Silver Chimes: A modern alternative to hand bells. Learn to play fully harmonized arrangements.
Peer Led.

Silver Beginner Ukulele: An introduction for complete beginners wanting to learn to play the ukulele. Simple chord charts and well known songs are used to develop skills within a small group giving players the confidence to progress to intermediate classes and larger groups.

Silver Improver Ukulele: The next step once you have learnt the basics. Develop skills and gain confidence within a smaller group.

Silver Ukuleles: For those who have got to grips with the basics of ukulele playing. Friendly, fun and relaxed groups with a varied repertoire. Soprano, tenor and baritone uke players all welcome.

Silver Wind Band: Do you play a brass or woodwind instrument or have you played in the past? Come and brush up your skills and join this ever growing ensemble of brass and woodwind instruments. All standards welcome except absolute beginners. No previous ensemble experience necessary. A broad range of exciting repertoire covered.

Silver Folk Band: Open to instrumentalists and singers with an interest in folk music. No prior experience necessary. Learn folk tunes and songs, with the opportunity to bring your own suggestions and work on new arrangements. Bring your own instrument.

Silver Beginner Recorder:
For absolute beginners who do not read music, less confident beginners, someone who reads music and wishes to play a recorder for the first time and anyone returning to playing a recorder. Peer led.

Silver Improver Recorder:
For those who know most of the notes or are ready to move on from the beginners’ group. Peer led.

Silver Recorder Ensemble: Learn a wide variety of repertoire from medieval dance music to The Beatles. Peer led

Silver Recorder Consort:
An informal group of between 10 and 20 competent players who play mainly 5- 8 part music written for early instruments. Music is provided from the libraries of the members, although occasionally music is ordered from publishers, members paying for their own copies. Peer led.

Steel Pans:
Silver Beginner Pans: Two new groups began in September - learn all about the steel pans as well as learning to play songs from Reggae to Rock 'n' Roll and Pop to Calypso! You can try out all the steel pans during the first term and if you have a favourite, you may want to stick to it!
All the Silver pan groups have a chance throughout the year to perform either in Silver Gala days or even your very own Steel Pan gig so don't hesitate to try out the sounds of the Caribbean!

Silver Pan Bands:
We currently have four Silver Steel Pan Bands. You can join any group but some groups have been going longer than others so you may need time to catch up with old repertoire as well as learning new tunes given to the groups. Come and talk to us about the possibilities.

Silver Lining:
Silver Lining works with singers and ukulele players to provide music to encourage those with dementia and their carers to enjoy a shared activity. It is open to all interested Silver Programme members.
Silver participants work in small groups with a group leader in residential or day care settings over a ten week period and workshops and training days are offered to anyone interested in taking part.
Support is given to carers to help develop their confidence and musical skills to enable music sessions to continue longer term.
