James Porter & Son Jewellers is an independent family run business inside Glasgow's famous Argyll Arcade. Established in 1858, James Porter & Son was recently named one of the 25 oldest family businesses in Scotland and is now in its fifth generation with Managing Director Simon Porter overseeing the business. The shop has remained in its current location for 133 years since being purchased by founder James Porter in 1887. Here at J P & Son we stock a beautiful range of diamond rings to suit every budget - as well as incredible gold, diamond and coloured stone jewellery to suit every occasion. As October draws to a close, we're taking a moment to appreciate its two beautiful birthstones, opal and tourmaline 💗

Opals are loved for their remarkable play of colour, with flashes of different shades appearing as the light catches the stone. Long associated with hope and good fortune, each opal has a character all its own.

Tourmaline is one of the most colourful gemstones, found in shades ranging from soft pinks to rich greens. Pink tourmaline is especially popular as an October birthstone and is traditionally associated with love and compassion.

Both make lovely choices for a meaningful birthday gift, or simply for anyone who appreciates colourful gemstones.
