Diploma in Wax part 2!

I can't believe we are on week 7, so we have covered quite a few projects already. I have worked hard to keep up to date with the projects but am a bit behind with posting what I have made so far πŸ˜‚!

So here are the projects I made in week 2 - a ring and a pendant with settings for stones. The ring is a bombe shape, one of my favourites - I just love the sculptural, tactile quality that can be achieved in the wax. This will be cast in silver and I will set the stone next term.

The spiral pendant is inspired by the shiva shells I used last year in some of my pieces and also the spiral embellishments on ancient jewellery. After some tweaking, I'm pretty pleased with how the concept has turned out. This will be marked in wax.

And continuing the spiral theme, the final piece is my pendant/charm from week 1. This will be marked in wax, but with a bit of refinement, I think it is a design that I might develop as it would work really well in silver. Let me know what you think! Xx

It's been a minute since I last posted, but there's lots going on behind the scenes! I'm very excited to let you know that I started the Diploma in Wax Jewellery with Jessica Rose | Jewellers Academy in September and we are already on week 6 so I've got lots to share with you.

I decided at the start of 2026 that I wanted to develop my technical skills and wax jewellery was top of my wish list. Luckily for me, this is the first year the diploma is running so the timing is perfect!

So why wax? Using wax to make jewellery is an ancient technique - a model is produced in wax to create a mould which is used to cast the piece in metal. The wax can either be carved or melted and layered to build up the design and we will be covering both techniques on the course. Developing these skills will allow me to experiment with texture, shape and new stone setting techniques so lots of new designs are on their way!

The pictures are of my first project from Week 1 - a carved ring. This will be sent for casting very soon!

Hello February!

Happy 1st February and although it's still cold and wet in Yorkshire, there are definite signs that spring is not far away now - the bulbs in the garden are starting to grow and in a few days it will still be light at 5 o'clock πŸŽ‰! Can't wait!

And to celebrate the start of February, this is the first piece I've made in my revamped workspace - a gorgeous faceted oval Amethyst set in recycled sterling silver, which I finished final polishing today. And did you know that Amethyst is February's birthstone? So a perfect choice to share with you today 🩷!

New Year's resolution completed βœ… !

I've been working really hard behind the scenes to get my work space sorted out and it is now finally finished!

When I started making jewellery I had a little bit of equipment and materials in the corner of the conservatory and one small table that I used for everything. But as my tool collection and materials increased without proper storage to put anything away, the whole space became my workspace - cluttered and chaotic and unusable for anyone else...

So my New Year's resolution was to finally get my work space decluttered, organised and cleaned. After a huge amount of work, including a mammoth tip run, trips to the charity shop, building lots of flatpack furniture and serious deep cleaning, I'm now back up and running, ready to start jewellery making again!
