It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Duncan Ednie, a long serving member of the band and much loved part of our band family.

Duncan was part of the band for many years, and it is difficult to put into words what his loss means to us.
For those who had the privilege of sharing a bandhall and a stage with him there are so many memories that we will treasure. His contribution to Dysart Colliery Silver Band forms part of our history and he will always be part of our story.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Duncan’s family and friends and with everyone in the wider banding community who knew and loved him.

Today our bandhall feels a little emptier.
Rest in peace Duncan. You will be dearly missed. 💙

What a day! 🎺🏆

A little look back at Saturday and a fantastic day for Dysart at the Fife Charities Band Association - FCBA contest.
We were absolutely delighted to come away with Best 4th Section Band and Best Fife B Band — two trophies we’re incredibly proud of! 🏆🏆

It was also great to see members of our Development Band taking part in the interval concert, joining other junior and development band players from across Fife. They performed a brilliant variety of music from the last 80 years, celebrating 80 years of the Fife Charities contest.

A huge thank you to the FCBA and everyone involved behind the scenes for putting on such a well-organised and enjoyable contest. A huge amount of work goes into making a day like this happen and it was very much appreciated. Christopher Bond Music for the adjudication feedback. Clar ELe Tham and Robert W Fraser our conductors

Congratulations to all the bands who took part and all the prize winners — a brilliant day of banding from start to finish.

Here are a few of our favourite moments from the day, accompanied by a little clip of our performance of Graces of Love. 🎺🎶

Thank you so much! We will get many more years out of them!

It’s great to see our old function suite chairs being put to good use at Dysart Brass Band. We hope you get some good use out of them.

Some of our tables are also making their way to the new Auchtertool community pub.

We are delighted that we have been able to help these 2 excellent organisations

Really looking forward to the contest on Saturday. 2 more sleeps 🎵💙🎵

Really looking forward to the contest on Saturday. 2 more sleeps 🎵💙🎵

Have you got your tickets for Saturday yet?

Doors open at 9am and our first band will take to the stage at 9.30am. Results are expected at around 7pm 🙏🏆🙌

For those unable to join us on the day we'll once again be keeping our socials updated with live action commentary and this year, that will be provided by our friend Stuart Black - conductor of Selkirk Silver Band and President of the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association.

Stuart will also be tasked with selecting the receipient of this year's 'Unsung Hero' award. Last year this was awarded to Coalburn's trombone team and prior to that it went to the timpani player from Clackmannan but whose name will be getting engraved onto the cup for 2026? This award is generously sponsored by Kingdom Housing Association.

🎶 Congratulations Robert! 🎶

We’re delighted to congratulate our Musical Director, Robert Fraser, on his appointment as Musical Director of Newmains & District Brass Band. 👏

Robert will be taking on this new role alongside continuing as Musical Director here at Dysart, and we’re sure Newmains will enjoy working with him just as much as we do! 💙

Congratulations Robert — wishing you and Newmains every success as you begin this new chapter together. Look forward to seeing what you can achieve in coming months with both bands. 🎺🎶

The band are delighted to announce the appointment of Robert W Fraser as our new Musical Director!

Robert started in brass bands playing trombone with the Jedforest Instrumental Band where he was conducted by his teacher Alan Fernie. He was introduced to conducting at a young age and, when at the University of Aberdeen, was provided with a bursary to attend the George Hurst Conducting School at Sherborne Music Summer School.

Since then, Robert has conducted bands all over the country and is currently the Musical Director of the Dysart Band in Kirkcaldy. In June 2026, Robert was awarded 2nd Prize and Best UK entrant at the National Association of Brass Band Conductors’ International Conducting Competition, with his performance being described as “transformative” by the judges.

Robert is looking forward to working further with Newmains and District Band and hopes they will have a productive and successful future together.

From Fife Charities Band Association - FCBA:

2 weeks tomorrow until FCBA 2026!

We have a brilliant line up of bands and a great selection of music to be enjoyed! in fact, there are NO doublers in the march or test piece selections so definitely a great day for listening!

Here's a reminder of what else we have to enjoy on the day:

An interval concert performed by the combined FCBA youth and community bands for your enjoyment!

Can't make the full day? coming to support the interval entertainment? Our special £5 matinee tickets allow access to the concert AND the second half of the contest. With full day tickets priced at only £10 (£6 concession, under-16s free and VIP free entry for SBBA medal holders) that is a LOT of music for your money.

An amazing haul of silverware on offer - for bands and individuals - including our much-anticipated 'unsung hero' award which will be independently judged on the day. Who will take the title this year?

The wonderful staff at the Adam Smith Theatre will be ready to serve you from 8.30am for our early draw arrivals and spectators - the auditorium will open at 9am for our first band at 9.30am. We also have a new seated area for your morning mingle.

All on-stage action will be live-streamed into the bar and cafe areas - so please, feel free to socialise and chat DURING the performances - enjoy the opportunity to catch up with your banding comrades - no need to leave the venue! stay with us and enjoy the day!

So how else could a brass ba**er possibly want to spend September 26th?

See you there!

💙 WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY 2026 — STARTING THE CONVERSATION

Today, Dysart Colliery Silver Band proudly stands together in support of World Su***de Prevention Day 2026 and this year’s important theme: “Starting the Conversation.”

We know that sometimes the hardest part is finding the words to begin. A simple “How are you doing?” or “Do you want to talk?” can be the start of a conversation that makes someone feel heard, valued and less alone.

As a band, we also understand the powerful role that music can play in supporting positive mental health. 🎶

Making music together creates connection, friendship, purpose and belonging. Whether it’s at rehearsal, a performance, or simply sharing time together, being part of a band can provide a space where people can connect, support one another and enjoy the positive impact of making music.

This World Su***de Prevention Day, we encourage everyone to start the conversation. Listen without judgement. Check in with someone you care about. Make time for one another.

You never know how much a conversation, a piece of music, or simply knowing that someone cares might mean to someone who is struggling.

At Dysart Colliery Silver Band, we are committed to looking out for one another and creating a community where everyone feels welcome, supported, valued and heard.

🎺 Let’s start the conversation. Let’s listen. Let’s connect. Let’s look out for one another. 💛
