🐾 Javier Update 🐾
We had another visit to the vets yesterday for a follow-up heart scan and, thankfully, the news was neutrally positive.
The good news is that Javier hasn’t got any worse and is responding well to his medication. The vets are pleased with his progress and, if things continue as they are, they are hoping to start reducing his diuretics soon.
Over the last few days he has been much more like his usual self, which has been wonderful to see. He’s been brighter, more lively, and generally making sure everyone knows exactly what they’re doing at all times.
One of his recent acquisitions is a cooling mat, which was bought with some scepticism as he has an impressive history of completely ignoring things purchased for his comfort. To my surprise, he absolutely loves it and has claimed it as his own.
Today he was also delighted to receive a visit from his Granny Pammy aka Pam Small, one of his favourite people in the world. Unfortunately for Granny, years of conditioning have taught him that she frequently arrives carrying snacks, so before greetings could properly commence, a full handbag inspection was required.
I am pleased to report that his ability to detect contraband treats from several rooms away remains entirely unaffected.

With the warmer weather forecast over the next few days, we’re also keeping a close eye on him. Dogs with heart conditions can find hot weather more challenging, so for the time being we’re taking things one day at a time and making decisions based on what’s best for Javier. At the moment he’s doing well, enjoying his cooling mat and generally behaving as though he’s in charge of the entire recovery process.
We know there is still a long road ahead, but for now he is comfortable, happy, and enjoying life, which is all we can ask for.
Thank you again for all the messages, positive thoughts and support. It means more than I can put into words.
For now, the market supervisor remains on light duties, with most of his time spent alternating between napping, snack inspections, handbag security checks and quality control testing of his new cooling mat.
