Do you know that traditional rollers used for lunging and long reining exert high pressures around the area of the back that we are wanting our horses to ‘lift’ through? A roller concentrates the girth pressure at the base of the wither.
Therefore I am a huge advocate for doing this groundwork with a saddle which the tree is designed to distribute the pressures evenly along the panels and have no contact over the spine.
This is not just opinion but backed by science!
