"We live in a culture where emotionally starved, deprived females are desperately seeking male love. Our collective hunger is so intense it rends us. And yet we dare not speak it for fear we will be mocked, pitied, shamed. To speak our hunger for male love would demand that we name the intensity of our lack and our loss." - Bell Hooks
These words are taken from a poem I wrote, having discovered parts of myself that I was always too afraid or ashamed to sit with, I kept punishing myself for feeling like I 'needed' someone. To speak of the true yearnings and cravings of the young girl inside of me, meant I was weak.
But in seeing her, listening to her and understanding her is where I have found my greatest strength. Initiating me into a path of learning how to hold my own, learning how to mother myself.
This phrase 'love yourself' in a society that demonstrates everything but how to love yourself can truly be such a gaslight for the oppression and deep pain we feel collectively. For we are not taught who we truly are, and picking up identifications along the way of falseness make this task seem absolutely impossible.
So this, this is compassion, kindness and gentleness to myself and to the collective. An acknowledgement of the wounds of us all from men who have been taught that to be a man means to not to open themselves to love. To the young boys and girls and everyone in between who grew with the absence whether physically or emotionally of their father. The deepest core of our initial trauma of separation, separation from our truest selves, the deepest love.
You are not weak. We have been miseducated. This wounded inner child inside of us is sacred, holy and pure. And I pray that every human learns how to witness and hold this in the reverence it deserves.
Blessed Wednesday 🌞✨
