At first glance, the Armillary Sphere ring is simply a band. Then it opens: the outer band splits apart and the inner bands turn, unfurling into four interlocking gold rings in the palm of your hand. A small, private universe that only you know how to open.

From our Elizabeth collection, the Rose ring has been inspired by the floral motifs seen in Elizabethan jewellery, especially the Cheapside Hoard . Featuring round rubies, pear shaped pink sapphires and a round old cut diamond in the centre, this pretty design has been given a modern touch by setting the gems in 18k rose gold.

Hello, for anyone new here. I’m Chloë, founder of Aril Jewels and a qualified gemmologist.

Aril makes fine jewellery with the soul of the past, designed and made by hand in London, for the way women actually live today.
If you have ever stood in a museum jewellery gallery and felt that pieces from the past have a warmth, character and joy that modern jewellery rarely matches, you are exactly right. I have spent my career completely obsessed with it. Gemmology and diamond diplomas at the Gemmological Association in my gap year, a history degree at Edinburgh, then years in fine jewellery across London, from Selfridges and Liberty through to the ateliers of Mayfair.

Every collection draws on a particular era and the woman who defined it, not to recreate what she wore, but to distil something of who she was. Elizabeth for her femininity and power. Georgiana for her romance and curiosity. Clara for her boldness and playfulness.
Everything is handmade in London using antique old cut diamonds and coloured stones I source and select myself, chosen for their individual character. The goal is always something worth keeping for a very long time, and perhaps handing down one day to become a future antique.

The rarest colour of sapphire is called padparadscha, named after the pink-orange colour of a lotus flower. It’s one of the most sought-after and hardest-to-find colour varieties (and one of my favourites).

If you’re born this month, it’s your birthstone, and a fortunate one to have, since sapphires come in almost every colour. Blue is the one everyone knows, but there are pinks, yellows, violets, and the peach-orange padparadscha, the hardest to find of them all.
