As an Australian–Brit, Thanksgiving has grown on me in a way I never expected.

It wasn’t part of my childhood or early adulthood, so it’s taken time to understand the depth of this non-doctrinal day. Now, I appreciate it as an inclusive pause — a moment to breathe, reflect, acknowledge where we’ve come from, where we stand, and where we might be heading.

This year reminded me that progress isn’t loud. It shows up in conversations that shift your perspective, in people who believe in you long before the world does, and in those small flashes of purpose that quietly tell you you’re on the right path.

I’m especially grateful for those who stood by me through the harder chapters, the calm moments that helped me reset, and the resilience I didn’t realise I still carried. For a simple North American holiday, it offers a surprising gift: space to feel thankful, grounded, and fully human.

The Florentine Diamond:
A 100-Year Secret That Reminds Us Why Heirlooms Matter.

The legendary Florentine Diamond—a 137-carat yellow pear-shaped gem that vanished in 1919—has been found safe in a Canadian bank vault, ending over a century of speculation reports the New York Times on 6th November 2025. This extraordinary Habsburg dynasty jewel, once owned by the Medici family before passing to Austrian royalty, was never lost or stolen as rumoured. When Emperor Charles I fled Vienna at the end of World War I, his wife Empress Zita secretly transported the diamond (set in a brooch) to Switzerland, then eventually to Canada during World War II. The remarkable part: Zita made her family vow to keep the diamond's location secret for 100 years after Charles I's death in 1922. That promise has now been fulfilled.

The Habsburg descendants plan to display the stone in Canadian museums as gratitude to the country that sheltered their family in exile. Authenticated by the Köchert family (once Austria's Imperial jewellers), the Florentine Diamond represents not just imperial grandeur but a testament to preservation and family loyalty across generations. The family has no plans to sell—ensuring this piece of history remains intact for future generations to study and admire. We can now appreciate this historic treasure that Jean-Baptiste Tavernier once called "the largest diamond in Europe" back in 1657.
