Hoyan Ip, British-born fashion designer acknowledged for thorough research-based, experimental and explorative new design who continues to challenge the meaning of future fashion. After graduating in 2008 at prestigious, University of Westminster studying a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, she gained many leading press coverage for her innovative collection at Graduate Fashion Week where she p
ushed forward clothing inspired by lifejackets and the journey on a plane. She continued developing her pioneering practice to develop new ideas and innovations, which she has shown at many varying events such as Clothes Show Live in Birmingham and Oxford Fashion Week
In 2010, Ip undertook a Masters degree at Kingston University where she gained further interest from industries such as Incrops, Givaudan and Wellcome Gallery for her exploration into multi-disciplinary design concepts. This is the directional point where she realised a continuing personal interest in experimenting with materiality, space and science interlinking this to fashion and future innovation of fashion product and design. Experiments turned into concepts and concepts developed into more exploration creating fashion clothing, products and installation to create, craft and adorn the 21st century body. Later she gathered more and more interest into materiality and the idea of sustainable fashion. Bio-trimmings, products made from wasted food destined to be disposed of were dried, cooked, blended and transformed into beautiful fashion trimmings-something often overlooked, but something that all fashion designers and manufacturers have in common. This project is intended to be developed even further through PHD research later on Ip's career, but where it stands today and in the future, holds a key to both sustainable fashion creation and reduction of global issues of food waste. An innovative product made from waste and transformed into beautiful sustainable luxury products.
